3952.0. "12/24 questions.." by OTIGER::R_CURTIS (There is madness to my method..) Tue Jul 24 1990 23:28

Has anyone out in AMIGAland ever heard of this problem ? I can dial
into our office system, a MicroVax, and use Xmodem to download things to
my Ami at 1200 baud, but 2400 will not work, it just times out. We have
a Decserver 200 which handles the dial-ins. It seems to me it used to
work in our old office, but when we moved, I guess something changed.
I have no privileges to look at the characteristics of the server, so
unless someone knows of a problem with Xmodem, I guess I'll have to
    suffer with 1200 baud. Sigh..

I know my modem (Supra 12/24) is good because other dial-ins work at 2400.

    Any ideas ? Thanks...

I dial in to the Cleveland office and download all the time at 2400
baud. You might need a newer version of XMODEM or you should try ZMODEM
    as it is much faster.

Send me mail - we should be able to get this fixed.

What kind of modems do they have at work ? We upgraded to
faster modems ( with ECC ) at our site. The new modems would
see something in the binary data that would hang the connection.
This happend using any data transfer program. They had to replace
some of the new 9600 baud modems with older 300/1200/2400 baud
    units for data transfer.

There is a mode on some modems wher the modem talks to the cpu at 9600 and
2400 on the wire. This is accomplished by xon/xoff which xmodem does not like.
This may be your problem. Try Zmodem.
