3937.0. "LHARC 1.20 & MSH 1.30 on TAPE::" by FROCKY::BALZER (Christian Balzer DTN:785-1029) Thu Jul 19 1990 15:08

    I uploaded Lharc120.lzh and msh130.lzh (from the recent
    comp.binaries.amiga posting) to TAPE::USER2:[UPLOAD].

    Actually I did this two days ago, but this silly DECintro kept me
    busy... ;-)

    Anyone else having trouble with Lharc V1.20? I can't get it to work
    except for the help message you get when you don't specify any
    parameters. It comes up with what looks like an "invalid command"
    message of some kind, but it ends up scrambling the returned status as
    well as the command line. For instance, from an ADOS Shell:

                      1.Main:DownLoads> lharc t lharc120.lzh
    yields:
                      1.Main:DownLoads> lharc t'lharc120.lzh
                      1.Main:DownLoads> mand  '

    I've downloaded it twice; first with zmodem and then with xmodem. I've
    tested the archive and unpacked it using lharc V1.10 with no errors.
    For kicks I even tried setting the pure bit and making it resident, but
    still no luck. Comments anyone before I go the same route as <CB>?

    Re: .1

    Well, it looks like the old one, plain CLI interface. It's however
    considerably faster and has many nice added features, like an
    environment variable controlling default switches and it's ability to
    be made resident.

    Re: .2

    I'll look into that. It works perfectly for me at home, but I have the
    same problems here (I just re-downloaded it from TAPE:: and checked).
    Maybe the archive got corrupt somewhere inbetween, although I used
    ZModem all the time...
    I'll upload a working version on monday, if I can't figure out today
    what might cure/fix this problem...

3937.4Lharc 1.20 ~= Lharc 1.10FROCKY::BALZERChristian Balzer DTN:785-1029Mon Jul 23 1990 03:5113
    Re: .2, .3

    It seems that Lharc 1.10 doesn't like 1.20 archives, at list not those
    generated without any "compatibility switches".
    Thus I generated a zoo archive (lharc120.zoo), uploaded it to TAPE::
    and deleted the .lzh version.

    I urge you folks to upgrade to 1.20, since all my Lharc archives and
    probably those of other folks will use this version from now on...

    Regards,

3937.5Lharc V1.21 (bugfix)CRISTA::CAPRICCIOFat: The *Natural* InsulatorSun Sep 02 1990 05:1219
    Well, it looks as if the location zero problem could be the reason why
    Lharc V1.20 would work on my A1000 but not on my A2000HD (A2091). The
    latest release (V1.21) can be found at:

                         CRISTA""::AMIGA:LHARC121.LZH

    From "Changes":

 -Version 1.21  08-Aug-1990
No new feature in this version, just a few bug fixes
-Read-from-location-zero bug eliminated: now Lharc works even if
 memory location zero (which usually contains a 0) as been altered.
-Now Lharc cretes archives with the correct name even if the part
 of the path name referring to the device contains a period.
-It as been reported that Lharc 1.20 sometimes crashed while
 reading corrupted archives: I could not reproduce the problem,
 but it should be fixed in this version
