3881.0. "Vt200.arc location?" by CAM::ARENDT (Harry Arendt CAM::) Wed Jun 27 1990 23:36

Anybody got the latest vt200.arc? I did the dir/tit=smoke stuff
but dir not find it on any nodes that I could access. Could it
be moved to TAPE::? Tried PAULY:: but my system manager could
not find the node. I also searched TAPE to no avail.

    Thanks

You can find Smokey V1.1a at:

                               CRISTA""::AMIGA:
    as:

VT200.ARC;15 200 ! Variable length (max. 510 byte records) for KERMIT
VT200.SLF;1 199 ! Stream_LF for XMODEM and unpacking with VMS ARC

I'm sure its at the other usual places as well; TAPE::, WJG::, etc.
3881.2Hangs on block 2310CAM::ARENDTHarry Arendt CAM::Sun Jul 01 1990 14:2815

I had tried the version on CRISTA""::AMIGA: and had a problem but
I decided to try them again and got the same problem. I use
xmodem to download and am currently using Foggy X1.0 and thought
I would get the latest and greatest. However when I attempted
to download the file it allways hangs on block 2310. I used
both vt200.arc converted using "convert u" on my local system
and vt200.slf copied over. Both had the same result. Has or
will anyone else download these files to verify them? I have
not had this problem before this.

    Thanks in advance.

    Harry,

I just (okay, yesterday p.m.) downloaded and unpacked both archives
with no problems. VT200.ARC was dl'ed with zmodem (my favorite), then
kermit and finally VT200.SLF with xmodem (all via VLTjr).

BTW, I believe Smokey (VT200.ARC,.SLF) and Foggy are two different
emulators. Foggy may be a child to Smokey (Did Leibow also do Foggy,
Meshugena and/or Wheat?). The latest (and last) version of Smokey is
    V1.1A.

Okay, here's the storey (complete details in note 705): Mike Leibow
created Smokey by heavily modifying Dave Weckers VT100 (I think 2.6). He built
it up through X1.0. After Mike went back to school, I created Foggy X1.0 by
modifying Smokey X1.0 to understand the keypad on an A2000, as well as making
the ESC key on the Amiga act like a hold screen, and the DEL key act like DO.
In response to comments about Foggy X1.0, I produced Smokey X1.1, which merged
the features of Smokey and Foggy, and made them user selectable. Smokey X1.1a
is essentially the same, but contains a bug fix.

Meanwhile, back at school, Mike Leibow needed a terminal emulater, and
started from scratch, producing Wheat/Messugena.

Ok, Now I'm really confused. Would you be so kind as to tell me what
the File names of Smokey, Foggy, Etc. Are??

    Thanks,

    Re: .4

Mark, sorry for the lack of credit where credit is due. Although I'm
using VLTjr at the moment (I'm hooked on zmodem), Smokey X/V1.1A is my
all time favorite. VLTjr has a lot of nice features but Smokey has the
most accurate emulation by far. It's the only one I've seen that can
    display SIXEL files also.

Don't forget the A1000 compatibility! It's great to be able to switch
to the A1000 keymap with just a pull-down menu selection (or script
file) as well as selections for the above mentioned DO key (sorely
    missing on VLT).

So, how about digging up the sources again and adding a history buffer
and extermal file xfer support and ... ;^)

    Re: .5, .6

All the previously mentioned files can be found at CRISTA""::AMIGA:
(as well as the regular places):

    FOGGY.ARC 196 ! Complete Foggy
FOGGYEXE.ARC 118 ! Foggy sans fonts, docs, init file
    MESHUGENA.ARC 205 ! as the name indicates
    VT200.ARC,SLF 200 ! Smokey V(X?)1.1a
    WHEAT.ARC 209 ! 'nuff said?

FWIW, the title bar on the version of Smokey on CRISTA comes up as V1.1A
                                                                       -----
