I was wondering if anyone has the sources for the PIN_WRITER print driver (that's the 1.3 driver for Nec 24 pin dot matrix printers). I want to fix the driver such that it allows me to take advantage of internal porportional space fonts when printing porportinal NLQ fonts from excellence! v2.0. I'm looking for the driver source code to save me some work. My choices seem to be: 1. find the sources for th PIN_WRITER driver (I like that) 2. write a new driver (out of the question) 3. start by typing in the sources for the EPSON-Q driver which are in the ROM kernal manual and modify that driver aince the printer is Epson compatable. This might serve the purpose and seems to be the only reasonable alternative. 4. other suggestions ??? Thanks Frank

Re: .0 Hehehe, if this whole topic wouldn't be so inherently sad, I'd snicker for quite some time. Le'me explain: I talked to Dave Berezowski (sp?), the master of printer drivers during the Paris Devcon, since we (the Software Brewery) wanted to write a new and enhanced version of the Nec Pinwriter driver (support for ALL characters, dramatically enhanced graphic speed, etc.) for FREE. Dave pointed me to Andy Finkel, since he hadn't the authority to gimme the source. Andy gave his OK during the Devcon and so I waited for the source to arrive. Today, several months and requests at West Chester later, I've given up hope. We certainly won't consider doing any "social" work for CBM in the future based on that experience. Maybe we can milk several thousand bucks from them for some piece of crap... Back to your request, the EpsonQ driver is the way to go, but remember that it won't do the 360x360 dpi mode (this is why we wanted the "original" in the first place). Don't bother to type it in, you should be able to find it on that CBM RKM disks, which can be found on one of the newer fish disks. In the case I'm confused again, nag me and you shall recieve the source from me. Sorry for the whining, but I just received the "official" European Support Programm guidelines, bleah. Have a nice weekend, (Thursday & Friday are free over here ;-) <CB> | |||||

.re -1 <CB> Thank you for the input on print drivers. I guess CBM isn't capable of recognizing opportunity when it comes knocking. Too bad! Frank |
