3811.1 | It should be working. | MQOFS::LEDOUX | Reserved for Future Use | Fri Jun 01 1990 11:37 | 12 |
| I forgot the version of Windows, but about 8 months ago,
I used the version DEC uses and copied it to my XT bridgeboard.
In CGA (normal PC to Amiga screen) it works, well... like
you mentionned you definitely need an AT. On my XT it takes
about 45 sec just to get to the window screen.
I just tried it for fun, then deleted it as it just take all
the power off my XT. I also don't have good application to play
with.
I assume that if it works with an bridgeboard XT, it must
work with the AT version.

| re .1:
MS-Windows 3.0 requires a 286, 386, or 486. It supports CGA, but
not XT's. It performs reasonably well on a 386/20Mhz system with a
VGA display.

How does the Windows 3.0 redraw/refresh rate on a 20 MHz 386 compare to
the Amiga's Smart Refresh window? Say a stock 68K Amiga for example,
running a 640 x 400 4 color WB, and comparing to a 640 x 480 VGA
desktop (how many colors?)

| re .3:
I don't normally run with a 640x400 4 color WB since I find interlace
annoying. The redraw/refresh is noticibly faster on a 4 color
640x200 WB screen, but keep in mind the MS-Windows 3.0 VGA desktop
is 640x480 in 16 colors. So its an apples and oranges comparison until
the Amiga has a supported 16 color WB for the 500/1000/2000.
There's an OS/2 program to convert 16 color GIF pictures to the BMP
files that MS-Windows and OS/2 Presentation Manager use for a
16 color background.
This is the competition, folks, I hope CBM realizes it in time.
For people that don't look beyond what's on the screen, and there are
alot of them out there, 4 colors as the default is no longer enough.

dennis (who still prefers his Amiga)
