I bought a book on Falcon today called "Turn & Burn". It is much better than thbook "Falcon Air Combat". I thought I'd start a topic on Falcon tricks to save you guys the $9.99 cost of the book. Spoiler follows: Pressing <CTRL/X> at any time loads 8 AIM-9L's and 500 M-61 rounds on your plane.

I love that game. But it has a flaw which I can't stand. The manual says that you can combine more than one mission, for instance, the first two missions (rolling thunder and water sports). However, I've not been able to figure out how to get Ribbons for both missions?! Even though I kill all the tanks and all the landing craft, I can never get but one ribbon on any one flight. Now, I ask you, is this any way to treat a hero? Also, has anyone come up with a way to take out the tanks other than using the mavericks? I know that you can use Mark-82's, but I usually have other uses for them. John K. | |||||

You can only get one ribbon per mission. At the higher levels of Operation Counterstrike (COL,LTC) you will probably need to do several Rolling Thunder/Water Sports missions (At major level and below you can win in four missions). Note that getting ribbons has little to do with "winning" the game. Several of the missions (Wild Weasle and the blowing up of the airfield e.g.) seem to have no effect on getting the CMH. I usually start out with the following sequence at COL level: 1) Rolling Thunder + take out the landing craft and maybe the SAM site near the rail head. 2) Dragon's Jaw 3) Water Sports + take out the tanks and maybe a few SAM sites From then on you alway need to take a pass over the lake to destroy any landing craft that may appear. If you miss one you are in trouble for a long time. I also always try to take out the power plant and the oil tanks on the same mission. It seems that once you block up the rail bridge you get a little breathing space from tank attacks. The tough part of blowing up that bridge to the north of the airfield. That is nearly suicide. John P.S. Mavericks and 2000 pounders are the only way to get rid of tanks. P.P.S. <CTRL/X> does not do anything in the mission disk. |
