| TVText is great for creating all kinds of titles with various shadows,
effects and so on, but does not provide animation. Maybe you could use
it and then import them with The Director or DPaint III ??

| TV * Professional will give you backgrounds, and titling. It is easy
to generate very impressive looking text, with a variety of special
effects like glows, sheens etc. I have not figured out how to use
the Kara Fonts with it yet,but believe it can be done. In regards
to animation you have to look at the problem very carefully. You
have the options of running anims,or using page flipping. I would
recommend Elan Performer as the driveing software.(59.95 list) It
will allow you to map both stills, and anim files to the keyboard.
At that time you have the ability to run the show from the keyboard,
mouse,or let it run automatically. It does not support wipes directly
but you could use it to give these effects somewhat. Currently it
will not support sound, but version 2.0 will have AREXX support.
The director will do it all when it comes to the display, sound,
and controll, but you pay the price in program complexity, and possibly
memory requirements. I build the animations in depaint, and often
run them right from that program. I have delux video III but think
it really needs more than a meg.

| I agree with -.1, ELAN performer works quite well. I make my titles
with DPaint along with Kara fonts, either static or animated then I
just assign the pics or animations to a key with ELAN and then it's
just a simple matter of hitting the key to get the title and hitting
another that has a black picture to "erase" the title.

3803.4 | No one program does it all | RIPPLE::LUKE_TE | | Fri May 25 1990 18:26 | 48 |
| <I am looking for a program to create titles in 3D fonts
<It should provide animation so I can go from one slide to the next <by making the old letters fly off screen and
<the new letters fly on.
Do you want real 3D fonts or 2D fonts that you can rotate around
in 3D? I also use TV Text and have seen the demo of TV Text Pro (and
like it). Deluxe Paint III is great for animating 2D in 3D space. I also
use AniMagic since it has some special effects already defined which
would take some hard thinking and a lot of time to generate with
DpaintIII
<Dissolves and wipes would be a nice touch, too.
AniMagic has some effects that look kind of like wipes. That is,
it would take an IFF text screen such as created in TV Text and created
an ANIM that brings it in. It can do all sorts of things as it is bring
it in, such as tumbles, spins, expand from nothing, or even stretch
and squeeze as it comes onto the screen. You can have one screen
(or ANIM) open like doors and have a second revealed behind it and all
sorts of fun things.
<I need to control the frame change from keyboard or mouse input,
not fixed times.
I too would recommend ELAN Performer
<It has to run on a 1 Meg A500. Anybody have a rocommendation?
Using ANIMs, anyway you look at it, 1Meg is going to be tight
and limit the length of ANIMs and the resolution. If you have a title
that stays on the screen for a while, ELAN performer will let you
load another set of ANIMS and still pictures while it is showing and
then continue on mouse/ keyboard input.
<Is there a single program that does the above plus control sound
files? Or would I have to buy separate hypermedia and animation
authoring programs?
It hasn't shipped yet as far as I know (they said June when I
called), but Showmaker may be the package that does it all. It is
supposed to have some kind of Text generating capability and tons of
transitions. CAN DO can do most of what you want if you are
satisfied with their text types (I'm not).
I'm still looking for the perfect program to do all you want plus
has MIDI support.

3803.5 | How about Sculpt/Animate 4D Jr.? | RGB::ROSE | | Tue May 29 1990 11:13 | 6 |
| Thanks for all the good input. It looks like ELAN Performer, Deluxe
Paint III and Kara fonts would do a nice job. One other thought - does
anyone have any experience with Sculp/Animate 4D Jr.? Also, the special
desk top video issue of Amiga World mentioned a public domain program
on PLINK that converts bitmap fonts into 3D fonts. I don't remember the
name. Does anyone have it? If so, could it be posted?

| The new ABACUS book on Desktop video for the Amiga inclides s/w
reviews with just this sort of issue in mind. Seems pretty good
to someone like me with lots of ambitions in the video direction
but v. little experience.
