3771.0. "Drawing tools/tablet/pencil " by YIPPEE::GOULNIK (Yves GOULNIK - EAITC/Mfg Valbonne) Thu May 10 1990 18:59

	Does anyone have experience with drawing tablets ?
	Professional Draw documentation mentions Easyl which
	is listed in the Abel price list at $284.72.
	Are there other/cheaper alternative, such as pencil
	shaped mice (?) and if not, is it worth the money ?

	What I want to do is free hand drawing with pencil
	rather than mouse precision. The other questions are,
	assuming that sort of device comes with its own driver,
	does it replace the mouse and can it be used transparently
	by any application ?

It does. Actually a lot of drivers for left- and right-hand positioning of
the tablet, and button configurations, etc.

>does it replace the mouse and can it be used transparently by any application?

Yes and yes. I believe the driver simply inserts mouse position messages in the
input stream.

>is it worth the money?

Depends. It's GREAT for tracing in line art, not so hot for sketching, it
requires heavier pencil pressure than sketching usually does, so it's a bit of
a trade-off. I use it with Deluxe Paint III with good results.
