3769.0. "European/Canadian incompatibility?" by PAOIS::MCGOWAN () Thu May 10 1990 13:57
About a year ago, when I visited my hometown in Canada, I
bought a copy of Dragon's Lair. When I got it back to France, it
wouldn't load. It gets to the first advertising screen, then
blanks it and disappears up the spout.
I figured it was a bad disk, so I sent the whole lot back via
mail, and the nice store owner sent me another copy, but insisted
that my copy worked on his machine.
Of course, the same thing happens with the new disks... I have
tried the disks on 2 other machines here, a friend's A500, and my
new A2000... no luck.
Is there an incompatibility (maybe at the copy-protection level)
between the European 220 volts/50 Hz PAL and the Canadian
systems?
Regards,
Frank.

Re: .0
There are several games that have a specific PAL-Disable code in them,
probably to avoid early "spreading" in Europe.
