3725.0. "ST150S-II/90 or QIC-150 questions" by SHARE::DOYLE () Thu Apr 26 1990 12:09

    Dec has a new Tape streamer offered with it's new decstations, after
    a search through the notes, I couldn't find reference to this particular
    model.
    	Things I know:
    			It's an ST150-n tape drive.
    			It runs off the scsi board in the new decstations
    			It requires a special driver (scitape.sys--I think).
    			It's 5.25 half hieght.

    	Does anyone else know anything else about these? Can one of these
     be hooked to an Amiga?
        If so, what controler would work with it?
        Special Software?
    							Thanks

    	The ST150S-II/90 is a Cipher QIC-150 ( 150 MB/tape ) drive. It is
    a 5 1/4 half height SCSI tape drive. The drive has been sold on the
    DEC/Tandy PCs for over a year.

    	I have tested this drive with a GVP SCSI controller and the GVP
    TapeStore software ( requires version 2.3 boot ROMS ). The combination
    works well. You can have disks as well as tapes on the same controller.

    	I have been working on my own software to work with the SCSI DIRECT
    programmers interface. This software should work with many different
    controllers ( including the A2091 ). All I need is the exact definition
    of SCSI DIRECT.

    P.S. I have also tried TK50Z, TKZ30, TLZ04 ( 4mm DAT ) and a couple not
         yet released.

3725.2$175 bucks for Roms, is this right?SHARE::DOYLEThu Apr 26 1990 13:166
     Wow, the GVP Tape Software & Roms are listed at $175 in AC's Guide!
     This doesn't include thier interface does it?
     Can't find any prices on just the SCSI interface.
     Looks like I'll have to give em a call.

     Well I called them, they told me $200 dollars for the controler, and
     it is $175 for the the Roms and Software.
     Thats $375 No Drive/TapeDrive.
      Maybe I'll just get the controler, and skip the tape rom/software for
     now.

    Ed - Briwall in PA had the roms for $158 but I believe thats without
    the software. I got the GVP WT150 drive and the roms come seperate
    and the software comes with the drive.
