| Why use ZOO? You can reduce download times substantially by using
LHARC.

3696.3 | Wait for VMS-LHARC | FRAMBO::BALZER | Christian Balzer DTN:785-1029 | Fri Apr 20 1990 11:46 | 16 |
| Re: .2
While I'm also in favour of LHARC and use it for my needs all the
time, the advantage of uploading heterogenous archives like the
Fish disks in Zoo format is quite obvious:
You can use VMS Zoo to request only parts of the Fish disk that
are of interest to you and cut down on transmission time even more
than LHARC ever could.
So until there is a VMS version of LHARC (there's a UNIX version,
of which I have the sources), we better use Zoo for Fish disks...

3696.4 | sure thing once we have VMS Lharc | CGOFS::OAKLEY | BCNU2 | Fri Apr 20 1990 12:09 | 13 |
|
As per .3, the choice of ZOO is to make it more convienent for the
people who wish to extract only those items desired for download.
Once I have a VMS program which will reliably work with .lzh files then
I will begin to upload in that format (after all I more than anybody
appreciates the reduced upload time).
There are a couple of people looking at the Lharc source but it is not
an easy job to make it work under VMS.

3696.5 | Where are FF346 and FF350? | LEDS::BUSCH | Dave Busch at NKS1-2 | Fri Apr 20 1990 13:44 | 6 |
| I'm interested in FF346 and FF350 and saw them listed elsewhere but I didn't
catch the location where the files are stored. Have they been uploaded yet, and
if so, where are they?

You can find it in the usual places (TAPE::, WJG::, etc) and at
CRISTA::AMIGA: as VMSZOO.EXE. You need to define a symbol for it, ie/
ZOO == "$directory-spec:VMSZOO"
For help, type "zoo h".
