Hi I wrote a program that sends MIDI output only and it works great on my system and gets serial write errors on other people's nearly identical amigas. The port opens OK. What if they don't hook up request to send and data set ready? What if the data input is inactive? What flags could I have set wrong? maybe midi tools on a fish disk i have will have a good example. Tom

I reproduced the problem by totally disconnecting everything from the serial port. However, note that I have an ECE midi interface and that the serial write errors occur on someone else's amiga with an ece interface. Tom

I presume you set the RAD_BOOGIE bit when you opened the serial port... My faulty memory (old-timer's disease) may be wrong, but I think this is required for MIDI. -SES
