3680.0. "PageSetter II vs. Pro Page V1.3" by NAVIER::MELLITZ () Tue Apr 17 1990 09:36

I briefly played with PageSetter II and Professional Page 1.3 this
    weekend.

Does anyone know what are the featured differences between
the two? Their screens appears very similar. It looks like PageSetter
doesn't support color and ProPage does. It looks like both have
the Compugraphic fonts sets and will both print postscript and
    print good dot matrix rendations.

    Thanks,

    Rich

I'm answering my own question. I called a few Amiga Dealers with
no luck. So I called Gold Disk directly.

    The differences are:

ProPage V1.3 has postscript support and PageSetter II doesn't.
ProPage V1.3 has 2 Compugraphic fonts and PageSetter II doesn't.
ProPage V1.3 may use more memory than PageSetter II.

PageSetter documents files are not readable by ProPage. This would
be problem if you plan to upgrade.

You can buy the scalable fonts (CG Outline Fonts) for $199
(US list) and use them with PageSetter. This kits contains 10 fonts.
What is not clear to me is if you can buy a single CG font.
If you could, this could still place PageSetter II plus a one or
two scalable fonts competitively against ProPage. That is if you
didn't want color or postscript capability.

You may use LASERSCRIPT to convert pagesetter docs to postscript
    format.

PPage v1.3 can import text from WPerfect, Scribble and others,
and Graphics from PDraw or in Encapsulated Postscript format,
and rescale them (although in the latter case, you won't see
what you're doing). I have been using PPage+PDraw a lot in
the past two weeks and I like them. I have an A500 with 1Mb
and I wish I had more memory and a faster CPU but I'm quite
happy. I only wish PPage could rotate or scale text without
resorting to overlapping pages and doing it through Postscript.

That's true for PageSetter but does that include PageSetter II ?

3680.5But can you...APACHE::MYERSTue May 15 1990 09:5715
I am seriously thinking about getting Pagesetter. Actually I'd like to
get Pro Page, but certain financial realities dictate :^)

Anyway, I've got an A500 with dual floppies and an LA75 which is used
in the "Other" (IBM) mode. What I'd like to know is:

o Can I print in landscape?
o How does the print quality compare to say Pro Write?
o Can you import from Pro Draw?... IFF pic's?
o What font's come with it?
o If an Amiga crashed in a forest, would it guru...?
