3675.0. "dpaintIII hints,help?" by SALEM::LEIMBERGER () Mon Apr 16 1990 13:18

    I was trying to do some animated titling with DpaintIII this
    weekend,and ran into a problem.What I want to do is simply
    tumble a word onto the screen,and then follow it with another
    word.I do the first word by setting the frames to 20.I then
    go to the last frame stamp my brush,and hit shift m to bring
    up the move requester.I set the z to -1500,the x to 360
    degrees,and click on draw.This works fine.Now I change the
    rate to 10(nicer tumble),and change the frame count to 50.
    This holds the first word on the screen.This is the point I
    run into problems.I add 20 more frames,go to the last stamp
    my second word,and click draw.I get both words drawing.How
    do you add the second word,without affecting the first? I
    could have two animations conrolled by he director,but feel
    dpaintIII should be able to handle this.

3675.1This works for me, how's it different?SLAVC::GAYNow where'd I put that hammer...Tue Apr 17 1990 02:5320
    I am not able to reproduce your problem. I just tried a short
    animation (rolling one word in from the left over 15 frames, extending
    the number of frames to 20 (which copies the last frame 5 times)
    and then rolling another word in from the right over 15 frames).
    It worked the way you'd expect, without any interactions between
    words.

    The way I did each word was to go the the last frame in the sequence,
    stamp the word there, bring up the move requestor and set it for
    dist: -1000 x, -1000 z, angle: -600, count: 15, and changed the
    move: from o-> to ->o (which makes it draw TO where you stamped,
    rather than FROM there).

    Then I hit draw.

    How is this different from what you are doing?

    Yours
    Erg

re -1.
        I followed your note,and it worked fine.I don't know what I was
    doing wrong,mayebe something I did with the frame count.Thanks for
    the tip.I plan to pick up the Dpaint video asap.I saw it once an
    while it is no big deal,it does contain some good tips,and is
    also pretty interesting.I saw the CBM rep at System Eyes this
    weekend.He was putting DpaintIII,and Digipaint thru the hoops.This
    is what made me decide to try DpaintIII again.I just did not
    realize the power in these two programs.I was using the glass font
    from HeadLines 2,and they look good when layed over video.

3675.3"Play" doesn't accept argsDECWET::DAVISMark Davis 206.865.8749Wed Apr 18 1990 21:0116
    Has anyone gotten the arguments for "play" to work. I created a couple
    of basic animations (with cyclic off and on) and am unable to get the
    following commands to do what the manual sez they should do.

    play foo 10 seconds

    	foo just cycles over and over until I hit the spacebar or <ESC>

    play foo 2 loops

    	foo just cycles over and over until I hit the spacebar or <ESC>

    Is there a better DpaintIII anim player out there or a version that
    plays correctly?

3675.4DPaint help neededNQOAIC::NILSENBob @ 264-7017Tue Oct 29 1991 14:5612
Hi, I need a little help with DPaint III or some other program that will
do the needed function. I have a picture that was scanned. I can bring
up the file in DPaint and have modified it. The problem I am having is
the picture is in the left upper corner and the rest of the screen is
blank. I want to import the picture with some text using PagesetterII.
I can import the picture fine, but I get the whole picture. Including
the blank area. How do I make just the picture in the upper left
become the whole file ? Or how do I delete the blank area ?

Thanks  Bob

	Capture the upper left picture as a brush.
	Use the brush size menu item and double it vertically and horiziontally.
	Clear screen,.
	Put down the brush on the screen.

    Tom-
    I believe what he wants to do is grab the desired portion of the
    picture as a brush and SAVE THE BRUSH, rather than enlarging it to
    fill the screen. The brush file should then import into the DTP
    program just fine...
3675.7Resize your picture...BHOVS1::WILSONTLLead Trumpet (Read that...LEED!)Thu Oct 31 1991 09:316
    There should be a resize picture command (there's one in Digipaint).
    Use the coordinate system to find out how big the picture is, then
    resize the picture to be that big. The imported info will be just the
    section actually containing the picture.

3675.8Just a little more Help, PleaseNQOAIC::NILSENBob @ 264-7017Thu Oct 31 1991 15:0515
    Well almost got it. I loaded the picture as a brush, moved it to the
    center of the screen and saved it. If I reload the picture with DPaint
    or import it to Pagesetter it comes out the same as before.

Don't load the picture as a brush. Grab just the region you want as a brush,
and save the brush. If you load the brush as a picture in DPaint, it
does just what you described. Try importing the brush into pagesetter.

Oh yeah - if that doesn't work (though it does - at least for things other
than PageSetter), you might try setting the Page Size in dpaint, and *not*
stretching your picture to fit.

BTW, the Art Department has crop operators for doing this kind of thing.
It's overkill, but it does end the confusion.

    You should be able to adjust the portion of the image that is viewable
    in Pagesetter. I am using ProPage. In ProPage after the image is
    imported, you can shrink the box, or scale the image bigger, so that
    only a portion of the image is viewable. Then you can move the image
    within the box by holding the Alt key and and the left mouse button to
    drag it. Check your docs Pagesetter may have a similar feature.
