| I was looking at impact color printers a while ago. It seems that the
citizen GSX140 has quite good color output. The text I saw was not so
hot and the printer was kind of slow. It is in the $350 range.
I also looked at the Star line of 9 and 24 pin color printers. The new
line (the XS2400?) of color printers off er an extra-enhanced (sounds
like olive oil?) printing more that looks quite fine. Also the colors
looked as good as the citizen. It was also quite a bit faster. It became
my printer of choice in the $400 range.
I looked at the sharp impact color printers and they were slower and
more expensive than the Star.

Now Dennis, stop that! You already knew I was able to take home an LJ250.
That stopped my "Printer Madness" cold.

| re:.3
so how does the LJ250 compare with the $400 Star Color printer?
I've only used an LJ250 at work to print color sixel pictures in its
DEC mode.

3665.5 | I like the NX-1000 Rainbow. | LEDS::BUSCH | Dave Busch at NKS1-2 | Thu Apr 12 1990 15:49 | 8 |
| I've had the NX-1000 Rainbow for about a year-and-a-half and I'm quite pleased
with it. The color output is not very vivid, but that's to be expected from an
impact type printer, and, since I have access to an LJ-250 and LCG01, I don't
normally use the color ribbon on the NX-1000. However, there are a number of
nice features that I like, even in B&W mode, such as paper parking, reverse
feed, hi-res output, down-loadable NLQ fonts, etc.

What is 'paper parking'?

| "Paper parking" is a printer feature that rolls your continuous-feed
paper out of the way so you can insert a cut sheet or envelope. When
you are done with the cut sheet or envelope the printer will "un-park"
the continuous-feed paper. It is a nice convenience, since it saves
you from having to manually remove and insert the paper in the
tractors. I also find it useful for re-aligning the paper to top of
form.
At least, that's my definition.

| I have a Star Rainbow also and the earlier statements are true.
The colors aren't real vivid but it doesn't cost 1000+ dollars either.
Currently you have to use the epson 80 driver from the preferences.
But I recently found a rainbow driver on the network. I haven't used
it yet but the driver should be of some improvement considering that
it's designed for it.
The printer can also handle graphic dumps.
For the money < $300 its a nice printer.

If someone has this driver, an upload would be appreciated

Yea.. Thanks
As well, I have heard of people using the standard black only ribbon in
the Rainbow to save the color one. Is anyone doing this??
If the above driver is vaporware, what is the best driver for the
Star Rainbow.

I use a black ribbon almost exclusively, only loading the color ribbon on rare
occasions.

I'm using the EpsonX driver that came with the 1.3 update. Works fine.
