I'm really posting this for someone else, but does anyone know of a program/methos of converting SMUS files into straight MIDI communications?

Music-X can read SMUS files, and can send the resulting notes out to MIDI devices. Is that what you want? John Sauter

music x is hundreds of dollars. deluxe music can also read smus and play it. I also need an smus to midi file converter and may have to write it myself. because if dmcs doesn't last much longer, I don't want to be stuck with non compatiable files. dmcs can save a priavte formate or smus format. I will start by saving all my files smus. Then I will consider the options for going to mid if midi file format. Tom

DMCS isn't perfectly reliable at saving a song in SMUS format. It gets an error, for example, trying to save a complex song called "1812_overture". Also, SMUS loses a lot of information that the private format retains, such as slurs. It might be better to play the DMCS music into a stand-alone sequencer, then play the sequencer back into Music-X, Dr. T, or whatever. John Sauter |
