3613.0. "X-Copy" by FILTON::FENTON_R (Potassium Ethoxide Rules C2H5OOK) Fri Mar 23 1990 09:14
Does anyone out there know anything about "X-Copy" (the S/W only
version)? I've been struggling for months with the thing, and can't
even get it to copy itself. I have tried Doscopy, Doscopy+, Nibblemode
on every disk I have, with no success (I have 1 Meg RAM + a 2nd drive).
I have also tried to use the Parameter copier, but the instructions
I find incomprehensible. I understand what they mean by sync
characters, long tracks etc., but apparently these "parameters"
have to be entered, to tell the program to look for tracks/sectors
etc. You get the impression from the instructions that there is
a list of these somewhere on the disk, but I can't find it. I returned
the registration card to Cachet months ago, but no response from
them.
I remember in a previous note that a lot of people mentioned a similar
program called "Marauder", which was periodically updated with
parameter files - I notice that on X-Copy the icons etc. are called
"Maraud-It Professional" etc. - is there a connection? Does anyone
have any lists of parameters I could use?
I'm really getting sick of this, I accidentally wrecked my "Shadow
of the Beast" the other night when it started to access the disk
just as I ejected it. OK, you can say it was my fault, but if you've
played this (excellent) game you'll know how unpredictably long
the various sequences are after you get killed etc. - sometimes
you just say to Hell with it and knock the disk out of the drive
and go to the pub.
Any help gratefully received.

PS Synchro Express copies SOB, but corrupts the copies in the process,
so I can't use it either.

| I can't help with the X-Copy problem, but I've found a way to avoid
the disk chomping on games - I alway do the three finger reboot before
hitting the eject button. That gives me a known amount of time to eject it
before the OS checks for the Workbench disk.

| By the way Rog, Your Shadow of the Beast disks shouldn't have screwed
up unless they were un-write protected, of it was saving when you took
them out, otherwise, it shouldn't matter. Tell me exactly what happened
next time. Lee again. Bye!
