3579.0. "RD52 interleaving" by GIDDAY::LAWSON () Wed Mar 14 1990 00:50

Is there something strange about RD52'S (Q540)?

Config is CHEAPHD project (Seagate ST11-M plus RD52) on A500.

Try as I might, I cannot affect the transfer rate (as measured by
DISKPERF) by changing interleave factors. note that I am changing the
interleave parameter during the low level format. I've also fooled
around in the mountlist to no avail.

Whilst I am basically happy with my home-made config, being light years
faster than floppies and as reliable as the day is long, I am concerned
that my maximum transfer rate of 28kb/sec is far short of transfer
rates being achieved by others with similar configs and software
    drivers.

I seem to recall that the RD52 is strange but can't remember where I
    read it.

    Any takers?

    Glenn.

    What interleaves have you used?

I had problems getting the speed up on the seagate 225 I have until I
went up to about 3 or 4. Then it jumped from about 28K like you are
seeing to a maximum of 125K

From memory, I have used 1,2,3, and 4.

what I did was (in order):

    1.	Low level format using the desired interleave factor.
    2.	Modify the mountlist to accomodate the new interleave.
    3.	Mount the drive.
    4.	Format under DOS
    5. Run DISKPERF

However, I'll give it another shot

    cheers
