3566.0. "Read / write error disk" by PEKING::NONDEP () Fri Mar 09 1990 07:29

    			Read/write error !!

Hi everyone here is an easy one for you. I have a DCMS Deluxe Music
Master something i forgot to take the name of the disc, still.
Beeing new to the amiga 500 i've read that it was wise to make a
copy of the original disk annd use the other one. So with one of
my copiers whiich one i foorgot again i've got X-copy, marauder,
mirror ... there i went put the new disk in and : read/write error
message, so try an other copier same thing but this time i had the
masterdisk with same message. I must have forgotten to protect the
    disk.....
Can I do something to arrange the master there is about 4 blocks
comming with the error message all in the "upper llevel of the disk".

I can borrow someones disks to try to restore the faulty blocks
but i don't know which one and the things too be looking for as
they are not too much self explanatory.

Any help will be much appreciated, Patrick
P.S. Is there an safe way to copy masters...

X-Copy Should be a safe enough way to back up the disk .

Just make sure that Your Friends disk is WRITE PROTECTED

    Thanks Pete,

This gives me the answer for the next backups that i will do tonight

Still hoping for some info on the read/write error message so that
i can restore my original music disc.

There's a little utility that will display the current track being
accessed on the floppy. I think it's in TAPE::USER2:[UPLOAD]TRKDSP.LZH.
That may tell you which tracks have errors.

    Thanks for the tip,
But i know which tracks are at fault i've got something that shows
which track, cylinder,or file but i don't know how to cure the files
the last thing i saw last night was could not find header message !!
Still chineese for me. The other thing is that they are located on
track 33,34,35,36,37 side one or upper which here again is chineese
i thought up to now that the amiga 500 was using only one side of the
    floppy ....

I've tried diskdoctor but i don't have sufficient understanding
of it working. It also locates the faulty file but when it asks
me to delete or not the read error files and after that to make
some sort of backup how can i make a backup of something i've
    deleted ?

P.S.I'm playing with an other copies of DCMS to test various options as
i've already mess up the original
    backup

Thanks also for the location of the utility, but i don't
1 know how to access it
2 maybee have the hardware for it

I believe the answer to above is somewhere in this conference

Re .1 .3 Does anyone have a clue for me on how to cure the
faulty tracks only four or five

I might have the right software but don't have access to the Net
files. What should i be looking at ?

    Thanks in advance, Patrick
