3553.0. "C-LTD SCSI / 8-UP problems" by SMAUG::LINDSEY () Tue Mar 06 1990 11:21

Hi,

I just receieved a new Mircobotics 8-Up board from Abel Supply yesterday and
am having a problem. The new memory (4m) works fine if the board is placed
after my C-LTD SCSI (can't remember what model, about 2 years old 'Moe special')
controller on the bus. (mem diags run ok., etc).

However, I need to have the 8-up board in the first slot.(testing 1.4) When
the 8-up board is in the first slot with no other boards present, everything
is still ok.

If I put the C-LTD card in any other slot I can't even boot the machine. All I
see is a grey screen with no activity on df0: and the power light flashes.
No guru message, no nothing.

Any ideas? Is it more likely that the problem is the C-LTD or 8-UP board?
Hate to have to send the 8-UP board back again (1st one had bad chips)

Good excuse to go out and get an A2091? ;^)

Thanks.

Jerry

Yeah, I still remember those suckers... This generation of C-LTD
controllers have a faulty autoconfig circuitry which will allow
them only to work in the leftmost slot. I dunno if a fix is
    possible/available.

Looks like a perfectly good excuse to me for getting a 'real'
    controller. ;-)

    re: -1 Thanks.

That brings me to my next question. If I go for the
A2091, what is a 'decent' price? Back about a month ago I called
around to the mail order houses (only Briwall had it then) but ended up
getting the best quote at Omnitek (Salem?,Mass) for $499 populated with
2m of 100ns memory. Is that reasonable or has anyone heard of better
prices (mail order or eastern Mass./southern N.H)?

    Thanks.
