| I recieved version 1.02 of CanDo in the mail yesterday. It had several
bug fixs, and some new decks. One new feature is a utility that allows
you to print out your deck to a file,or printer. The printout contains
a list of windows etc,and the discription of your script that looks
similar to intuition code.I don't know if you could write a script,an
then turn that into a deck though. The install program now functions
properly. 1.0 install did not work on my system.A discussion with
Tim Martin bought up an interesting point. If you own a GVP Drive
you must rename the partition befor you run the install.I simply
renamed mine DH0: The cost of the update is $4.00 plus your original
disks. I sent my original disks, and $15.00 overnight express.I recieved
the update two days later. I opted to go the expensive route because
I sent in my card, and disks together an I wanted to be sure they
did not get lost in the black hole.Include with the update was a
small but informative addedum complete with an index for the original
manual. So while it cost $$$ to do it this way,I at least have my
originals back updated, the manual update, and the knowledge that
the support is very good. Now if I can get time to use it!

| I recieved VidGen 1.0 ???? update yesterday.I say 1.0???? because
I had purchased 1.0. The story behind this is that because of the
inability to get labels printed, and the content of the update they
simply decided to call it 1.0. The update is that now VidGen is
compatable with Tv Titler,as well as Pro Video Gold. You don't have
to worry about getting the versions mixed up though, because where
they failed in labeling they are ahead of the game in tracking updates.
When you run Vidgen you are presented with a title screen with the
serial # displayed at the bottom of the screen.Well when I ran the
updated version I saw "William G. Leimberger" update# serial #
displayed on the screen.Of course the update will also have menus
for TV Titler.I think including the name & serial# on the title
screen is a great Idea. As to where this lives I haven't bothered
to look, but I tend to think it is embedded in the code. There was
no cost to the update, but considering the inital list cost of 150.00
I am not surprized.
This brings us to another point" cost".While the cost is very high,
and at first glance the program does not come near others like CanDo,
Dpaint III etc in functionality I am not sorry I own it. I have
had some say to me "You can do that in Dpaint III very easy",and
"You can do that in Dpaint III in no time at all".Now we are talking
Embossed Backgrounds here. Maybe the previous statements apply to
you but not TO ME. You have the ability to take a simple 1 color
brush saved from Dpaint,or any other paint program and generate
a screen with the brush embossed in a repeating pattern. At that
time you can select to stagger the pattern, change the depth, brightness,
light source,spacing both vertical,and horizontial,centering,reverse
shading, color, and a number of other highlights realtime then save it
to an IFF picture compatable with the two high end Titler programs
available today.Heres the kick, If you are working at a professional
level, and need an embossed video background of a tennis ball in
five minutes Dpaint will not do it(you may draw a screen, but to
run through all the possible screens).Given the quality of the result,
the value of time saved(at professional studio cost),and the ease
of use I think is worth the INVESTMENT.Now if Anyone interested in
the demo I have permission to pass it on.

| Good idea for a note.
I always send in registration cards, but in my experience European
companies are very bad at notifying availability of updates, and
US companies very bad at notifying users outside the US. I think
the ONLY updates I have ever had notice of are from Photon Paint
and Lattice. And I've sent in a lot of cards!
