Or you could just go and install PLT for _free_. ;-)
If you have CPU cycles to burn, PLT (available on Fish Disks and
several EasyNet locations), will do a very nice job of printing
HPGL data to _any_ (Preferences supported) printer.

Thanks <CB>, PLT: works fine! I _did_ remember seeing something like
this, but I thought I may have dreamed it.
The PLT: handler takes any HPGL file and teaches your printer how to
print it. The conversion takes a few minutes on a 2500/20. Output is
redirected to the PLT: device via the normal AmigaDOS file redirection
format; COPY FILE.HPGL to PRT:
There is also a screen previewer that displays the HPGL file in about
two seconds.

Well, it _should_ work fine, that's why I'm a beta tester for PLT:. ;-)
The authors claim, that given some time, a redesigned version should
be substantially smaller and a tad faster...

There used to be Jet Master (C.Ltd). Does it
still exist ? Is there anything else for editing
and loading fonts to HP LaserJet ?

3522.5 | FYI: RAM + PostScript = $525 | BOMBE::MOORE | Eat or be eaten | Mon Sep 24 1990 20:54 | 21 |
| Well, frustration at the absence of decent software support for my
LaserJet III's built-in capabilities has driven me to upgrade to
PostScript. I remember pricing this at around $800 when I was
buying the printer last spring, but prices seem to have come down a
bit since then.
After scanning ads in the current issue of PC Magazine (I only read
it for the advertisments ;^), I've ordered these:
2MB RAM upgrade:
$175 from Microprocessors Unlimited, (918) 267-4961
[A couple of others came in around $180-$185, several
were over $250.]
Pacific Page (PostScript) cartridge:
$349 from Arlington Computer Products, (800) 548-5105
[One of several dealers in the $350-$380 price range.]
Total cost:
$525 to upgrade a LaserJet IIP or III to PostScript.

From Computer Shopper (honest, just looking at the ads)
Genuine Adobe Postscript cartridge for LaserJet II - $295

| Yes, I saw the Adobe cartridge at attractive prices (e.g. $239) in some
of the ads. But I also read something that stated this cartridge was
for the LJ II *only*. Presumably the thing would function in the newer
models, but I suspect you'd be losing something (performance?) due to
internal differences. Notice that all the other PostScript cartridges
have different versions for the IIP/III versus older Series II.

Ahhh, I thought that was too good a price to be true, especially coming
from Adobe. They must have a parking lot full of these older
cartridges.

| I suppose you could call Adobe to ask about it. Theirs is by far the
lowest priced. The other one is JetPage, which was only slightly less
expensive than Pacific Page, around $325.
I ordered my stuff mid-afternoon yesterday, the RAM card arrived bright
and early this morning. As always, outstanding service from the folks
at Microprocessors Unlimited! BTW, it uses the same 256K x 4 CMOS DRAM
chips that go into the A2091/A590 boards, expandable in 1MB increments
up to 4MB.

3522.10 | update | ACOSTA::MIANO | John - NY Retail Banking Resource Cntr | Tue Sep 17 1991 12:20 | 6 |
| Does anyone have any late information. I'd like to upgrade my
IIP to PostScript but I have not seen any adds for the
cartridges recently. Does anyone know where I can get one
cheap?

3522.11 | | BOMBE::MOORE | Amiga: Where 'multimedia' REALLY began | Tue Sep 17 1991 18:45 | 4 |
| Check Computer-Shopper and similar rags, they usually have plenty of
ads for printer add-ons such as these. A quick scan of the current
issue of Byte (in the library) indicates prices around $350 for the
Pacific Page cartridge and $140 for the required 2MB RAM expansion.
