3515.0. "Disk Cataloging Programs????" by SHARE::DOYLE () Fri Feb 23 1990 10:18

Are there any quality floppy cataloging systems available either
        commercialy or PD?
While waiting to find a MFM hard drive controler at a reasonable cost
(that's cheap), I've collected quite a quantity of floppy disks.
The thought of going through each one with shell and list doesn't
appeal to my EZ going (thats lazy) nature.

Things I'd like in the program.

	1. No Typing!!! Just slip the disk in and it reads the directory.
	2. I'd like to be able to delete unwanted file names from the data
           base.
	3. Search and sort functions.
	4. Automatic Disk renaming.. Changes Empty to Disk001,Disk002,....
	5. Disk Label printing support....
	6. Duplicate file handling... asks if file should be processed.
	7. friendly interface, and multitasking
	8. print out of records.

I know there is a public domain program called DiskCat on tape,
but when I downloaded it all I got was a draw and the docs,no program.

							Thanks
								Ed

Well, there's one called DirMaster on Fish disk 130. I know it does
at least some of what you want...

Or you could manually create contents files that match the Fred Fish
collection "standard" so that Aquarium could be used.

I too have been looking for something that matches what you described
in .0. No luck so far either.

I tried DirMaster, but its not enough.

Check out Project D. It's a commercial disk copier program with
    a catalog tool included.

There is also a program called DiskCat III. I think the program on
Fred Fish is called DiskMaster not DirMaster. I believe that DiskCat
III has an option that allows you to ignore AmigaDos files when
cataloging. This would save a little bit of time when editing out the
"junk" files (those files that support the main program but you don't
want in your catalog). I personally use SuperBase. It won't read your
disks automatically but it doesn't actually take any extra time
inputing the data since you enter only what you want. For most disks,
this is 1 or 2 programs. You'll use as many keystrokes deleting
unwanted files as it will take if you just enter the program names
manually in a database program. Plus, I can configure SuperBase anyway
I want to and am not restricted by program constraints.
