| Since today I only have an original disk, I mean that I have no
backup.
There is no possible action after the cancel command.

| Re: .0
Thomas,
I had the very same thing happen to me with Deluxe Video II (The
version I had required the key disk. Thank you-know-who that
DVIII doesn't have any such protection scheme). The way I got
around it was that everytime I got this requester (and it didn't
happen all the time for some strange reason), I would open another
CLI window and enter (I think this is the syntax - if not, it's
close):
assign "original disk then cancel:" df1: (or whatever drive DV
was in)
I would then hit the retry 'button' on the loading process would
proceed as advertised.
Hope this helps.

3507.4 | recently I dream about copy protections | FRAMBO::BOFFO | | Thu Feb 22 1990 03:54 | 11 |
| Re: .3
Art,
good idea. But I can't activate a new CLI in that situation.
I have written that statement in the startup-sequence. The result is
that DMCS claims that it has not enough memory to run normally.
That means that no editing is possible.

| For a little extra money you can mail order a non-copy-protected DMCS
from the manufacturer. I did and am glad.

3507.8 | advantages of non-protected dmcs | MILKWY::JANZEN | Tom 228-5421 FXO/28 | Thu Feb 22 1990 14:21 | 8 |
| Incidentally, when I bought the non protected DMCS, I could run it
out of ram disk, which makes a difference becasue it seems to have
overlays. So DMCS can access its overlays faster, I can run off
workbench 1.3, and have a data disk in df1: and never need the
original dmcs disk.
I like it.
but you need some memory.

3507.9 | Cheapest is to get the unprotected. | ODIXIE::WILSONTO | | Thu Feb 22 1990 21:06 | 4 |
| You should have copied your original disk to another (yeah, I know it
would ask you for the original every time, but the copy, you could have
mucked around in and not had any problems.) Looks like your only
choices are to get the non-protected one or ask EA for another.

| Is it possible to upgrade the protected disk to a non-protected.
And if, where do I have to send the disk and how much money do
I have to pay.
The problem is, that I live in Europe and the States are so far

| Re: .4
Thomas,
Based on .4 and re-reading the base note, it sounds like you are
running a floppy only system and booting up with the DMCS disk.
With a hard disk system, I had the Workbench screen available to
me, which enabled me to open a new window so I could do the
'assign' quite easily.

3507.13 | Orig. Dist. contains a card | ODIXIE::WILSONTO | | Fri Feb 23 1990 12:31 | 5 |
| You may need a card (postcard) that was in the original distribution
for DMCS. That's what I used, even nearly a year after my original
purchase, I was able to get the upgrade for $20.
The card is what they use to prove you bought the original.

| Thanks for your support,
I found a german distributor and they gave me the newest, german,
non-protected version free of charge. And the first thing I did,
was to make some copies.
Nevertheless thanks for your help
