Hi All, I'm having trouble getting my A500 w/ supradrive controller and Quantum 40-S to autoboot. I also have the A501 memory expansion in my 500. I have installed the 1.3 ROM myself and that seemed to go well. (ie, I get the hand and disk picture that says 1.3) When the Autoboot chip is in the controller, all I get is a grey screen and no drive access. (neither hard nor floppy disk) I took the drive into the store where I bought it (memory location in Wellseley, MA) and they hooked it up to one of their A500's. They told me that I had zeroed my harddrive. I know that I didn't because I had used it that morning and there was data on it when I hooked it back up to my computer. They also told me that it autobooted fine with their A500, thus the bootchip is OK. It seems to be a problem with the computer, but I'm not really sure what. Do I have a screwed up 1.3 ROM? What can I do? Help, please! Thanks In advance.... Steve Owen

I had the same symptoms (grey screen) when my supra controller could not sense a drive connected it. Verify your drive to controller connections. If you remove the autoboot ROM from the supra controller you should be able to boot from the floppy drive. You can trouble shoot from there. hope it helps, mark

Yea, that's how I'm running now. (no bootchip/booting from floppy) And everything seems to be OK. Strange thing is that when the drive/controller is hooked up to another A500, it thinks my drive has been zeroed. Steve (who still is confused...)

Have you tried (I hate to say it) supra "technical support"? They are rather useless technically, IMO, but may have a "symptom table" with recommended actions. My problem was that my SCSI->ST-506 adapter prevented the Supra from recognizing the drive connected. The indication on the Amiga was the light grey screen, and the floppy light blinked once. When I removed the autoboot rom from the Supra I was able to boot the floppy and access the drive(even though the adapter had a problem!). When I received a working scsi adapter everything worked fine. If you can, connect another Supra interface to your Amiga(a friends, local computer shop) and observe the symptoms. You should be able to determine whether the problem is in your Amiga, Supra, or drive. wish I could be of more help, mark |
