I'm interested in this one too, if anyone gets a hold of it.
I need it to change Movie format to IFF anim format for Animagic.
Thanks,
Dave

Jeese, I haven't been on PLINK for awhile... I had more fun hacking
around TELENET :-)
WJG::AMIGA:CAPTURE.LZH
Have Fun!

Sorry guys! I screwed up!
It's CAPTURE.ARC. I renamed it on WJG::.

3437.6 | Can't find "node"? error using capture | SHARE::DOYLE | | Mon Feb 12 1990 09:03 | 6 |
| Anyone have a problem using this?
I ran the program and got a "can't find node"? error.
Seems like it expects you to have a hard drive or something....

3437.7 | I was able to capture the graphics resolution but no animation. :-( | STAR::ROBINSON | | Wed Feb 14 1990 13:40 | 10 |

Yeah, the program was a bust. Anyone have a clue as to what a node
means for a program that is trying to grab each frame of a playing
animation? Is node part of the anim "standard", or is this a device lookup
problem, as Ed suggested. I know people in the computer business never
use the same term to mean entirely different things in different contexts...
;-) This program definitely makes assumptions without documentation
as to what they are. I'm dissapointed.

3437.8 | Almost worked sorta | SHARE::DOYLE | | Wed Feb 14 1990 13:52 | 13 |
| Just thought I'd keep you updated on my progress.
I first copied capture to my c: directory in DF0:
I also got my resolution finder to work....
I then tried capturing the animation (SC4Djr) to the same disk I was
reading it off of (DF1:), this didn't work (can't find node error).
I then tried to copy c: to ram: and capture Df1: DF0:, no luck.
I then tried to define the save path as Empty: (c: back to df0:)..
and I got the screen flash (what your suppose to see), but the program
wouldn't write to disk.
Oh well, I'll keep trying;

3437.9 | Maybe Now it'll work! | SHARE::DOYLE | | Thu Mar 29 1990 14:02 | 6 |
| I just recieved a supra 8.0 board with 2 meg installed last night.
It's great!
Now that I have a little elbow room in memory, I'll try this program
again.

3437.10 | It Works! sorta.... | SHARE::DOYLE | | Mon Jul 30 1990 10:33 | 23 |
| I finally got this program to work for me, here's what I discovered:
1. it wasn't the memory that was lousing me up...., this program
doesn't like either "ARP" or "Power Packer" or both.
I felt pretty stupid, when it finally dawned on me to try an
un-modified workbench on it.
2. It works pretty smoothly from then on, creating a directory on
the disk I specified in the setup, and saving the frames as 1,2,3,....
and so on.
3. Major upset, only the first 2 files are readable Iff's, the rest
are specially packed "Hash" format and seem to need one of the Hash
programs ($) to translate it into standard IFF formats.
4. I have a minor beef with the misleading article that stated that
this saved "anim" as standard iff's.
Guess I"ll have to spend some $$$ for a comercial translation
program.

I have a HASH to IFF converter and would be willing to convert
a few for you.

3437.12 | Thanks, What'll you use? | SHARE::DOYLE | | Tue Jul 31 1990 08:52 | 21 |
| re: -1
Shure, I'll upload some as soon as get a chance, Thanks!
By the way...
Is it a public-domain or a comercial product that you'll use?
I'm curious, to see if thier is something like Syndesis(sp?)
Interchange for animation formats...
I have Movie Setter,DPaint3,Photon Paint II, as well as DVideo III.
Although I can convert the pictures to one another easily enough. I'd
like to be able to do the same for Animations.
I'd also like to be able to switch resolutions of IFF Animations
without having to break em down into single picture format to convert
em, then put it back together again.
Is there such a beast?
Thanks again;
Ed

| re: -3
I may have been hasty in my saying that the Capture utility saves
in a "special" hash format.
I finaly got ahold of "Animation Bridge" off of one of the recent
fred fish disks.
This seems like a pretty nice utility for converting Animations to
different formats.
It seems that it says that the animation I was trying to
convert, "Jessica" (movie format, from Roger Rabit) one of the older
Anims on the net, is a "Mangled IFF File".
It's strange because the animation seems to play fine by itself.
Anyway, I'll try Capture on some "Movie Setter" files and on some of
my own Anims to see if it saves in a standard series of iffs.
I appologize for my hasty review on Capture.
Ed
p.s. Anyone else out there try Animation Bridge?
