Sob...I did a very stupid thing. Yesterday, I went home bringing
an LA50 printer and some cables. I had bought a new desk and reset
my system into it. I just finished hooking-up and testing the stereo
as an amplifier. All was right with the world and I broke the cardinal
rule..I blindly plugged in a peripheral (the LA50) and...it hurts to
say it...turned it on.
After the LA50 ate my system all processes locked up. "Thats odd..",
I thought and tried a warm-boot. No good. A cold start had me facing
a Blue screen and thats where I am today.
On powerup I get an (almost) immediate blue-screen. If I put a disk
in the drive and try again the screen is purple. The very first time
I rebooted the screen was purple (disk in drive) and the caps lock
was flashing. It hasn't flashed since.
I am about to call _The Memory Location_ but does anyone out there have
a clue as to what has happened? I know the LA50 or cable sent a signal
that it shouldn't have and my parallel port bought it but any clue as
to how bad the damage may be?
George
Ps: I looked up Blue in the color-code list and it says ..
"Bad Custom Chip".

If I were you I would first check the power supply. The serial port (if I'm remembering correctly) has power pin'd to it. Perhaps you shorted the supply. Was the LA50 a working unit? Good Luck, Ed

I think so. I powered it up connected to the Amiga and it flashed
the middle (fault) light.
With the line disconnected from the amiga it seems ok (green lights).

I didn't think we had a parallel version of the LA50? Were you
using a parallel to serial converter?

Actually that was my problem. A total, blissful lack of foresight led me to just plug it in. I'm bringing it to the doctor's tommorow for them to pry the blown chip out. I actually never thought about the LA50 being a serial printer. After it is better I'll look up LA50's in the notesfile and find out what to do. In hindsight it was a stupid mistake but what can you do. George
