I have almost reached the point of no return ... what I really mean is that the return key on my A500 has been getting steadily worse to the point now where I have to lean very heavily to make it work at all. I have taken the key cap off but it doesn't reveal anything useful underneath ... and is very difficult to get back on. Anyone know of a cure, other then redefining the keymap to use another key for CR? Peter

< I have taken the key cap off but it doesn't reveal anything useful < underneath ... and is very difficult to get back on. The failing component is probably the piece of conductive rubber that touches the surface. If you compare the resistance of this part to another key you will find a higher resistance. If you cannot get another part, you can swap this piece with a less used key. I understand you can use keys off of a C128. Hope this helps. -Tom- | |||||

I have a friend that had the same problem except with the shift keys. The Memory Location has the replacement parts for the key. It most likely is the conductive rubber part. The cost, if I remember correctly is about $4-$5 for the part. Open the Amiga and remove the 2 milliion screws holding the keyboard to the metal backplate. Then, just lift out the old part and insert the new one. (keys facing down on the table). The memory location did say there were two versions of the a500 keyboard so you may want to open it first to determine the exact type of replacement part you will need. Good Luck. Roger |
