3381.1 | Scriptit should work | STAR::ROBINSON | | Tue Jan 23 1990 16:52 | 8 |
| I don't know if there is a simple way or not, but I read a description
of a new PD (shareware?) program/language called Scriptit, that will
follow your mouse movements and create an editable script file. You
could set up your WB the way you want it, and the next time call the
script from your statup sequence. I suspect some version of this
is available in the archives but I don't know the name or latest version
of the file.

| The ram: problem is easy...just put a "CD RAM:" in the startup!
All that is required is to use it in some manner.
As for the others, I've tried to think of some way several times since
owning my system, but to no avail. I'd be interested ti see if anyone
else has accomplished it.

| Since Icons can be "dragged" out into the workbench screen, the
only method I can think of is to use one of those programs like
SCRIPIT, RECORD/PLAY, etc and let the script file actually perform
the operations. This is pretty ugly though. Since the end result
is that the icons CAN appear in that screen, there must be some
way of setting it up.

| I always thought if you drag an icon outside onto the workbench, and then
save it's location, it should be there whenever you boot.
Maybe in 1.4... <CB>??

An alternative to having the tools appear on the screen is to have
them appear in your menu.
There's a PD program, HandyIcons on Fish disk 148, that adds a new
memu list of your favorite tools to the normal Workbench menu. You
can then run a tool by selecting its menu item.
There a commercial program called WB Extras that does the same thing
but has the added advantage that you can pass argument to the tools
as if through extended selection. For example, click on the icon
of a text file, and then run the editor on it by selecting the menu
item.
I have WB Extras and love it. It cost about $40, but I believe its
been discontinued (it didn't sell very well). Unfortunately, since
I got my new 2091 disk controller, WB Extras fails to pass directories
when you select their icons as arguments to tools. I'm looking into
that.

I've found 'MyMenu' to be the best (for me) of the 'Add some neat stuff
to the Workbench title bar' type utilities.
MyMenu can deal with command-line only OR Workbench programs. It's
available in the usual places on the e-net.
