I have been playing Emerald Mines on the A500 with no systems / software problems. Recently acquired an A2000 (A500 is with daughter at college). EM will not run on the A2000. I get the GURU number that translates into "illegal instruction". I tried running with "NOFASTMEM" and tried loading using each of my two disk drives. I tried loading using CLI commands. No matter what I got the GURU "illegal instruction" although the offending address was different. Anyone got any ideas (other than give my daughter the A2000 and keep the A500)? I'd buy EM II and try it but it looks like Emerald MInes is no longer available in the commercial marketplace!

3363.1 | Floppy Drive "Problem" | CRISTA::CAPRICCIO | Raffi Be Rad | Thu Jan 18 1990 13:05 | 24 |
There might be the possibility that the differences between the floppy drives on the A500 and A2000 could cause a problem (alignment?). I say this because when I bought Emerald Mine, I had no trouble booting on my A1000 at home, but I could not for the life of me get past level 4. I figured that it was just a real tough game and I would be spending a lot of time trying to get from level to level. Then I brought it to work one day to show it off and let people try there hand at it. Before I knew it, everbody that was playing it was getting to level 7,8,9, etc. "Wait a second! I'm slow but not *that* slow! How'd you get past level four?", I says. "Easy. Once you have all the keys, just head for the door", they says. "What about the diamonds blocking the exit? Every time I so much as breathe on them, I blow up!", says I. "Just pick them up", says they. Well sure enough, I tried it at work and I zipped right through them diamonds. Then I tries it at my system at home, and no go. It seems that the copy protection is very sensitive, even from one drive to the next. Luckily, there's a patch out there that disables the copy protection. I made a ADOS copy of the original, and then NEWZAPped the copy. Hope this helps... Pete
3363.2 | SAME EM PROBELM AS YOU | MILPND::KNOWLES | Mon Jan 22 1990 14:03 | 6
Pete, That same problem you describe happened to me on the first EM that I owned. For first two months it worked fine then all of a sudden emeralds exploded and the time allowed was reduced by about a 1/2 - made it impossible to play. Sent it back and the replacement did the same thing. My most recent copy works but as noted only loads on the A500. I have a possible solution on the way. |
