3333.1 | Demo Version of CanDo Available.... | CGOFS::CADAMS | Clint Adams - Calgary, Canada | Fri Jan 12 1990 17:37 | 10 |
|
I ran across a demo version of CanDo on a local BBS in Warp format. I
haven't had a chance to have a look at it yet.
It can be found at CGOU01::AMNEW:CANDO1.WRP,CANDO2.WRP as well as in
TAPE::USER2:[UPLOAD] (when the FTSV job finishes).
Regards... Clint

3333.2 | looks interesting | SALEM::LEIMBERGER | | Sat Jan 13 1990 03:51 | 15 |
| I was playing with the demo at System Eyes not long ago. It is an
interesting product for sure. I'll probably hold off on purchasing
it at the moment. A flood of authoring products,and the like are
hitting the market now. While CanDo is impressive I want to see
what VIVA can do.I guess I would be more excited if I spent more
time in the workbench,but as of late I have been working with ARexx,
and Wshell.(I do believe CanDO has a rexx port).If I had to build
a turnkey application for the Amiga to be used by someone else I
would use CanDo.It most certainly would be an execellent front end
for this type of application,and would make a very,very flashy
interface to the workbench. Paul does CanDo support interactive
use of Video equiptment like Cd's etc ? This is the area I want
to see built into this type of product.Also what is the overhead
like for this program ?

3333.3 | sure does | SALEM::LEIMBERGER | | Mon Feb 26 1990 05:39 | 7 |
| Well I purchased CanDo,and it looks like a lot of fun. It has a
lot of features that you can draw on to build an application,however
like anything else it will take an investment in time before I'll
get a lot out of it.However it should be able to blow the socks
off some of the other HyperText type products available on other
systems.

3333.4 | Game Decks, Inovatronics BBS | CRISTA::CAPRICCIO | Smilin' Joe Fission | Sat Oct 20 1990 22:06 | 14 |

I picked up a couple of simple game decks from Inovatronics BBS. I'd
like to create some myself for my daughter (seeing as the commercial
educational software available is still lousy at best, IMO), so I was
looking for some examples. At CRISTA""::AMIGA:, please find:
ANSWERME.LZH 21 ! Unscramble the clue to answer the question
COOTIE.LZH 22 ! Based on the original build-a-bug game
Regarding the board, there's not a whole lot of stuff on it but there's
a good variety from their products (CanDo, Power Windows, etc) and
there's a message area where you can post your tech support questions.

3333.5 | DeckBrowser is it on the NET | CSC32::A_ANDERSON | DTN 592-4170 NSU/VAX | Tue Jan 01 1991 14:00 | 10 |
| The AnswerMe Deck documentation mentions a DeckBrowser for non CAN-Do
owners. Is this a distributable player for Can-Do decks? I have the Demo
and it looks good but I would like to see some typical user written
examples. I am trying to decide between Can-Do AmigaVision and Amos.
Amos so far is coming out as the most versatile from the info I have
been able to gather.
Thanks

3333.6 | DeckBrowser and other Utilities | DECWET::DAVIS | You always get what you deserve! | Tue Jan 01 1991 17:25 | 6 |
| If DeckBrowser isn't in any of the usual sources I will upload it
tonight. I have several CanDo utilities-one that dearchives files,
and another that will allow you to launch programs from the workbench
using configurable buttons-that I can upload also if there is interest.

Could this one be LZHSHELL? If so, I thought I posted it (and a few
other CanDo applications) a while back, but I may have spaced it.
Anyhoot, if you haven't already, you can find the following on
CRISTA""::AMIGA:
DECKBROWSER.LZH 120 ! required to run unbound CanDo decks w/o CanDo
EDITFILE.LZH 6 ! small editor
LZHSHELL.LZH 14 ! intuition front-end for LHARC
STATES.LZH 164 ! guess the State Capitals edu-game (bound)

3333.11 | .grab files | DECWET::DAVIS | Strength through Peace | Fri Mar 22 1991 13:04 | 7 |
| I am writing a file reader in CanDo. I want to change the scroll
gadgets in a memo document. I noticed that there are some ".grab"
files in the "CanDofiles" directory that CanDo uses when placing
pointers, gadgets, etc. Has anyone used custom .grab files? If so,
how do you implement them?

Those ".grab" files are just brushes that CanDo uses as gadgets while
you are in the CanDo design environment. While you can change the
".grab" files, they would only affect the objects CanDo displays while
you're building a deck (take a look at some of them in a paint program
or with an IFF picture viewer). You can use the ".grab" files as images
for buttons (as I think they use some in the tutorial) but what you
want to do might not be possible (in V1.02 anyway). I believe that
those types of gadgets (ie: "Document" scroll bars) are "hard-wired"
into the library that gets accessed when you run the application you've
created. I suppose it's possible to write a script to do what you want,
but the built-in stuff makes it a lot faster and easier.
Hoping I haven't missed the point...

3333.13 | WorkwithDocument/MakeDocument | DECWET::DAVIS | Strength through Peace | Mon Mar 25 1991 15:00 | 10 |
| No you didn't miss the point, you explained what I was asking. I spent
two hours trying to make a "parent" button work in a directory list. I
was using the "WORKwithDOCUMENT" command and it would only go back one
directory. I changed the WORKwithDOCUMENT command to "MakeDOCUMENT"
just to see what would happen and it worked perfectly. Is there a
subtle difference between the two commands and how they work with an
already existing document?

3333.14 | RReader.lzh on TAPE:: | DECWET::DAVIS | you always get what you deserve | Wed May 01 1991 19:09 | 7 |
| I uploaded to TAPE:: a CanDo file browser/reader with a GUI and
integral file requestor. If you do not own CanDo you will need
"Deckbrowser" to run the application. The file is called RReader.LZH.

| I've uploaded the DeckBrowser for CanDo V1.5 decks to CRISTA""::AMIGA:
along with a Home Budget sample deck. Apparently the latter comes with
V1.5 of CanDo, but both of these came from the Inovatronics BBS (I have
yet to upgrade). Please find:

What it is?
What is LAZi? LAZi is a graphic interface for the archive
utilities Lharc, Arc, and Zoo. You supply the archive utilities. LAZi
will add, delete, extract, and update single or multiple files; allow
you to read extracted readmes/docs or any other ascii file; save a
configuration file that holds the locations of your work directory(s),
archive utilities, and icon position. Yes, it will iconify and, when
re-iconified(?), stay where you last placed it! If you have no
experience using Lharc, Arc, or Zoo I suggest you read their
documentation before using LAZi. LAZi was created using CanDo v1.5.
