3330.0. "Captain Blood" by FILTON::FENTON_R (Theres no hair on a seagulls face) Fri Jan 12 1990 04:50

Sorry to divert everyone from the serious stuff for a moment, but
I am currently struggling with this game. Either someobody helps
me, or the Amiga assumes a parabolic trajectory window-wards.

When you spot a planet with little red flashing defences etc., and
fly down to it, you always end up flying along a canyon, at the
end of which is supposed to be an alien creature. Despite playing
for many hours, I have yet to encounter anybody... my Oorxx just
dies at the end of every canyon. I have read and re-read the
instructions, but I am certain I'm doing nothing wrong. PLEASE help
    me if you know anything.

    Thanks,
    Roger

3330.1A little help.SHARE::DOYLEFri Jan 12 1990 11:4410
I had this game on the 64, (loved nuking planets !!!).
If I remember correctly, there was the one place you'd started out,
thier would be a alien, from there on you'd better write down your
conversation withh the alien(s), because only the aliens know where
other life forms are. Maybe there's a planet named in the manual?

    					Sorry I can't remember better.

3330.2Land at first planetDECWET::DAVISMark Davis - 206.865.8749Fri Jan 12 1990 14:1412
.1 is correct. When the game starts you MUST go to the planet shown and
get coordinates for other planets from the alien you find there.
It is almost impossible to randomly find a planet with a life form.
ALSO, the planet's coordinates change from game to game so there is no
guarantee that a planet, with an alien, at coordinate 100/100 will have
an alien when you restart the game.

OR, you can just wander around the universe blowing up planets and
sweating through landing your Ooryx. I like to get aliens and render
them down into their essences in the fridge.

Do I understand you correctly - the opening planet (after you load
the game) is guaranteed to have life-forms on it? I did find a couple
at one stage with flashing red diamonds, which I assumed indicated
life-forms, but couldn't find any. Also, I tended to assume that
the presence of defences on the planet indicated the presence of
life-forms. Finally, it says that your indicator (when you're flying
the Oorxx down a canyon) will flash only if you're heading in the
right direction, and I thought that this also meant that there was
a life-form in that direction. But if you're saying that these
assumptions are incorrect, I'll get stuck into the first planet...?

    Thanks a lot anyway,
    Roger

3330.4Copied ?????RUTILE::BISHOPMon Jan 15 1990 09:1413
I don't own a amiga but an st. If you are using a copy of the game
it could be some-kind of protection.

When i tried backing up my copy on the st, 'my arm and hand' wobbled
so much that it was imposible to point and click.

Maybe this is protection for the amiga.

Anyway i know there are not aliens on all planets. Maybe you're
just unlucky with the planets, BUT there is always YOKO on the
first planet. Have as long a chat with him as possible.

    Lewis.

Don't start me on copying, or we'll be here forever - one of my
pet subjects! No, it isn't a copy, it's pukka Ocean (spit). Thanks
    anyway...

I am going from memory but I think the diamonds are missle defense
placements. One way to find out if they are is to fly above the
valley and see if you get shot down.

The ONLY way I was able to find inhabited planets was to go to the
planet that appears when you boot up the game and get coordinates from
whatever is there. Threatening them usually worked for me. (smile)

Yes, the diamonds ARE defences - that's why I thought they indicated
the presence of life! Seems it's not that simple though. BUT!!!
I have followed your advice and found Yoko! Now all I've got to
do is memorise all the icons and I'm away. This has the potential
    of being a good game...

You dont need to memorize the icons. They should be translated for
you when you go over them with the hand!

If not maybe this is some kind of protection ;-) Ok, i'm not starting
Roger, honestly. Just a joke ;-)

If you memorize all those icons, I'm going to enter you into the game
    players hall of fame! ;^)

BTW, I quit playing capt blood because I got tired of looking up the
    icons.
