3325.0. "anyone using tapes for backups???" by UBEAUT::MANDERSON (Monday oneday, Tuesday the next) Thu Jan 11 1990 16:20

    backup and tapes.

Does anyone use tapes for backups, and if so which one. What backup
software do you use as well??

GVP have a (new) scsi tape due for release, here in Australia, in the
next few weeks. It's an "Impact WT-150" 150mB streaming scsi tape
drive, and it can fitin the 5 bay in a 2000. Any comments on this
unit?? Any other scsi tapes around that are ok. Something like this
    would be great.

Currently I am using MRbackup and a heap of 3 disks - I like the idea
of using a tape as it would save a heap of disk changes and having to
be there during the backup - would be good to kick it off and go to bed.

Is there any software around that is a VMS backup look-a-like??
    (Quarterback??)

    regards
    	kevin

The tape you are refering to comes with it's own software. As for
quarterback I wish we had something this slick to use here at work.
It is fast, easy, and will use two floppies if available. It is supposed
to support all devices the amiga can access.

AMIX requires a tape so I imagine Commodore will sell/recommend one.

I'm waiting till then so that whatever I get is compatible with AMIX...

    Who, me? ;-)

Well, the one they currently use is a 150MB QIC type thingie, but
I wouldn't bet any large amounts that this is going to be the
production unit. I hope that I'll be able (and allowed) to tell
you more after the 3rd European developers conference in Paris,
    Feb. 7-9.

Since I'm also in the tape, just watch what I'm gonna buy... ;-)
