I'm using PPage(V1.1) with Wordperfect and am wondering if anyone else has
run into these problems, or if maybe some of these have been fixed in
PPage V1.3...
1) WP Outlines - PPage doesn't recognize the indents or the automatic
paragraph numbers or superscripts
2) Page numbers - do you manually set up a box and enter the correct page
# in PPage - same with any sort of page header/title
3) Table of Contents - i have many separate WP files and i guess i can
load them all at once and generate a TOC with WP and then import it into PPage
and correct all the page numbers - same with the index
4) I created a template for even and odd pages. I created some pages
and used 'page number default' and then inserted a page near the
beginning - i was hoping that as the pages changed from odd to even
they would automagically change (expecting too much?) their templates

There are several things happening here.First you have to remember
that Professional Page is a DTP package. It offers several modes
of text input but not as of yet WP.Being a desk top publisher it
offers you the ability to flow your text into any size box wide,
narrow or whatever. As a result of this it has a hard time adjusting
to any set indentations, linefeeds etc from any word processor that
it does not support.I suggest you save your input as a plain ASCII
file and then import it. As for superscripts etc I haven't dealt
with them so I can't help. WP offers very good controll over
formatting, and setting your document, however it is this feature
that is causing the problems. The way I handle page numbers is to include
a place for them in my page templates, and enter them manually. PPage
has come a long way since 1.1 days and you have been missing out
if you've neglected to update along the way. Gold Disk has been
very good in respect to improving, and updating their products, and
1.3 is a whole new world when compared to 1.1 .Most noticable is
the inability of 1.1 to print files properly. If I were you I would
either update to 1.3 or trash 1.1 and work with WP. Working with
1.1 is an uphill battle. As more word processors start to add features
that try to offer typesetting, the problem will continue to grow.I
looked at Word Perfect in a store last night, and was very impressed,
and if I were going to write a novel I would consider buying it,but
for resumes, software manuals, flyers etc I will stick with what I
consider to be the best combination for now. PPage 1.3,Pdraw,and
Transcript. In the long run I would not expect to see PPage offer
any further extended support for Word Processors(Transcript is their
product) but if they do Word Perfect would be the most likely choice.

PPage 1.3 has the ability to import WP files. I don't know how it
works though.

PPage V1.1 can also import WP files. They just loose a bit in the translation. I guess what i really need is a list on changes between 1.1 and 1.3 (other than the dot-matrix printer enhancements). mark | |||||
