| | I have a very bad feeling about this. While you may be able to
remember what you need to know to use Falcon from just a few days of
reading the documentation, that certainly isn't true of Lattice C
    or Music-X.

I hate to accuse a fellow noter of lying, but what you are asking for
is so unreasonable that I have to suspect that you posess illegal
copies of this software and are trying to make illegal copies of the
documentation to go with them. I recommend that you chase down your
roommate and get your documentation back from him.

| | If you sent in your registration card for those programs, you should be
able to obtain new manuals from the software publishers themselves for
a nominal charge. This will cost you some money, but that's the
breaks. I really doubt if anyone is going to send their own manuals
out to anyone unless that person is well known to them.

I consider my manuals to be far more important than the media on which
the software came, which can be easily duplicated or replaced.

If I were you, I would expend all possible energy in tracking down my
roommate. Sounds to me like he's dissappeared with possibly thousands
of dollars worth of your personal property.

I personally feel uncomfortable when my manuals are more than a few
feet from my fingertips, and I suspect most people who have a large
cash investment feel the same way.

Wow! That's a pretty substantial amount of software! If my math serves
me correct, you have about $2,000 worth of software there. What type of
system do you have?
If you post the serial numbers here, we might be able to help you out.

You had better get on the phone, and order the docs from the vendor.I
lost one of my manuals at work for a day an became very distraught,
and,I get upset if I misplace them when I am home.I lost the
reference card to ProPage a year ago and am still in mourning.I
think I'll call Gold Disk myself today.I cannot even comprehend a
piece of documentation leaving my apartment. As for lattice you should
be getting 5.04 in the mail soon, and you will get the mission disk
when you update falcon(ask them for the documenation when you send
in for your update, and mission disk)This also applies to ProPage.I
am sure Gold Disk would be willing to help when you order v1.3.
As for the others I do not have any experiance with them.

I wouldn't want you on a jury! Although I must admit it does
sound strange, I think we can be a little more open minded
about this! Let's not make accusations when we have no proof!

I think you can tell this is a serious matter. I would be
EXTREMELY surprized if anyone would lend you their manuals.
Regardless of your intent or honesty, this kind of request
ALWAYS provokes negative emotions and questions! I agree with
the other suggestions, persue your roomate and/or contact the
respective companies to get replacements. That is a substantial
    loss!

| | Just a reminder ... it is a violation of corporate policy to allow
access to Digital's systems by persons not employed by the company. That
includes offspring of employees. I know this rule has been violated on
this notes conference. I sure wish employees wouldn't give junior access
to our system just to keep him entertained.

| | I can sympathize somewhat with .0

I amassed a collection of games - all in their pretty little boxes
etc and found I just didnt have room to keep all the packaging...
I purchased a disk box and put all my disks in that, then took all the
manuals out of the boxes, disposed of the boxes and filed all the manuals.

In a house move about 3 years later, a box containing about 15 manuals
along with several odds and ends simply vanished! I dont know
    what happenned to it...

I wrote letters to people such as infocom, quoting serial numbers
where there were serial numbers and explaining the situation. I
did not request that they send me the manuals, just that they provide
me with replacement cost information so I could forward the money
and the original disk if they felt that was necessary.

I have not received a SINGLE REPLY from any of the companies I
wrote to (with the exception of Cinemaware - my brother purchased
Rocket Ranger for me as a present while in the US. We found it
didnt work and returned it. I had to write 3 letters, each a little
less polite and a little more nasty before I finally got replacement
    disks)

I made do with most games, asking people for help where I could
and using the old "trial and error" method where possible. I am
just thankful it wasnt my Basic compiler manuals that went missing

Call me stupid for losing the manuals in the first place but I was
in a similar position to the author of .0 I dont mind being called
stupid but I am liable to get mighty upset at being called a liar!

It can happen folks...probably to anyone here under the right
    circumstances...

Back to your previously scheduled program...

You aren't the only one who feels that way. The second time I served
on a jury, the lawyers worked out a settlement within 24 hours after we
    were empaneled.

I sympathize with .13 more than with .0, because of the different
feeling I get reading the notes. I hope .13 made a claim with the
moving company, and recovered the cost of the misplaced documentation.

The problem with simple dectective work is that it's often wrong. I had
nothing to do with this note. I do think, though, that someone was playing a
joke.
