3234.0. "Format of Juggler data file????" by PEEVAX::GIFFORD () Mon Dec 18 1989 20:32

G'day,
	As a minor late evening rather than midnight project, I have been
toying with the idea of converting the Juggler demo to run under DECwindows

I now require some advise....

Firstly would this be legal???

Secondly, does anyone have the format of the juggler file - it does not
appear to be a standard file.

Regards

Stan Gifford.

    I'm not a lawyer so I won't risk giving legal advice, but in my opinion
    converting the Juggler without permission of the author is unethical.
    The author put a lot of time and creative energy into making an
    admirable picture. To "convert" that picture without his permission is
    like making an unauthorized print of a painting.

    It would be quite a different thing to make a picture of your own that
    reminds your audience of the Juggler. However, if that were your goal
    you wouldn't need to know the format of the Juggler's file.

3234.2Where is ReadMeSALEM::LEIMBERGERTue Dec 19 1989 09:1411
    I'd read the docs on the original juggler package to see what it
    says.I seem to remember there was a readme regarding this.Forgetting
    the juggler one may still want the file format IFF,anim etc for
    reference.The juggler was very early so it would be neat to know
    what format it is.I think the original readme contained this info.
    This brings us up to where the file is(probably FF).It probably
    has a "this is freely distributible as long as all the files in
    the archive are included".Something many are lax about.I think we
    should make every effor to follow this request,especially when this
    is all that the author request.

    Why not just write an Amiga emulator that runs under Decwindows?

Thanx for the input (espec .1)

The copy of juggler.arc that I have on my vax came from Norse or TAPE (or WJG)

It has no readme!

You have convinced me that if I am to do this I should contact the original
author for his permission or otherwise.

Does anyone have a contact for the Juggler author?
