| | What kind of troubles is he having specifically ??
Sculpt 4D is very complicated and takes a while to figure out. It
does have one of the best manuals in the industry. Has he tried
the tutorials in the book first. They helped me quite a bit when
I first started. Define paths and local origins can be tricky because
you have to set up a hierarchy properly before the anim will work
properly. Please describe what you are doing and I will try and
    help.

| | John,

Thanks for the reply, this is my sons answer:

For my experiment with animation I wish to create a sphere moving
round a circular path. I have managed to give the path (about ten
points joined together by straight lines ) a name ie circle by
selecting 'name path'. Next I have selected the sphere and called
this - using 'name selected vertices' ie ball.
After that I start to get confused with what to do with 'modify
local origin' and ' modify tumble' and these are key to animation.
Also connected to animation - the 'modify take' option is always
ghosted out - will this become available once I understand how to
    use the above commands ?
PS I am using version 2.03

By the way John , for the benefit of us in the UK where is CGOA01
and what did you mean by "compuserve 75320,143 : ?

Many thanks, and Happy Christmas to all readers

Hi sorry about the delay responding I have been very busy and was
away for a while during christmas. Now getting back to your sons
problem, to create a take in Sculpt4d you Load a take and because
one doesnt exist yet you give it a name in the requestor you then
can load in the desired objects etc. to create the picture/ANIM.
Creating Hierarchies can be tricky it is usually best to make a
name at the top and have all other objects attached to that name
as sub names, that way if you need to move the whole animated object
you only have to move th local origin of the top name and all other
objects will move along with it. I highly recommend the tutorial
that is on page 11-6 of the manual. It creates an anim almost exactly
like the one your son describes. Before wasting a lot of time rendering
in HiRes I recommend you do your traces in wire frame to save time
also you can do the preview from the global menu and it will do
your anim in a wire frame small screen first so you may see if the
objects move the way you wanted too.
I hope this helps. If you need more help please dont hesitate
to ask. I will keep the manual handy so I can respond quicker next
time. In answer to your other questions CGOA01 is in Calgary,Canada
and I live and work in Edmonton and I connect thru Edmonton to Calgary.
Compuserve is a national network available to subsribers all
across North america it can be described as a large BBS it should
be available in Europe soon if not already. It has an enormous Amiga
    database.

| | John,

Thanks for your help. My son now seems to have cracked his problems. It
certainly is a most amazing package for a 'domestic' machine. Digital
should consider porting it to a DECstation !

    Regards,

    Adrian
