3167.1 | Some New Features | SHARE::DOYLE | | Wed Nov 29 1989 12:37 | 7 |
| I don't have the advertisement with me, but Dynamic Hires means 4096+ colors
in HI-RES, (not shure what the memory requirements would be).
Also some general improvement in Noise reduction along with Arexx support.
There were some other things as well, I'll bring in the advertisement
tommorow.

3167.5 | is this still a limitation? | NAC::BRANNON | value added | Thu Nov 30 1989 17:34 | 7 |
| Does it still not let me digitize from a VCR's freeze frame?
It was the extra cost of the required mono camera and digitizing stand that
persuaded me to go with Perfect Vision instead.

3167.6 | B/W yes, Color doubtfull | SHARE::DOYLE | | Fri Dec 01 1989 08:50 | 8 |
| You can get satisfactory B/W pictures from digiview, when directly
connected to the VCR, using the VCR freeze frame, and B/W from the Digiview
menu.
However, direct color input would probably require a hardware modification
on the Digiview interface, and I believe this is only a software upgrade.

| re .6 I thought you could do color if you ran your vcr output through
a color splitter and then too digiview.

3167.8 | Your Right! | SHARE::DOYLE | | Fri Dec 01 1989 12:24 | 8 |
| I stand corrected, (forgot all about that). Note 1989 has some discussion
about this.
My biggest problem, isn't with digiview - it's trying to save up the money
for a digital vcr....the one I'm using now just don't hold it's freeze/slw
long enough to do animations. :'(

Thanks for the pointer to note 1989, that answered my questions.
I'm using the color splitter with Perfect Vision. Glad to see I was
wrong about Digiview.
Don't you consider jittering pictures animation 8^)?
thanks,

I not only have a few dynamic hi-res images, but I have the entire new
NewTek demo.
I will be uploading both this week. The NewTek demo is composed of six
LHARC files, so it's a bit of downloading, but I think it's worth it.
NewTek, once again, proves that nothing can sing and dance like the
Amiga.

3167.12 | Will it work well with only 1 meg? | LEDS::BUSCH | Dave Busch at NKS1-2 | Mon Dec 04 1989 13:43 | 5 |
| I'd like very much to upgrade to 4.0 for the new features it's got but I wonder
if I'll be able to make use of them with only 1 meg of memory. Does anybody have
any idea of how limited my use will be?

3167.14 | DV 4.0 has arrived! | AKOV11::SMITH | Reality, just a visible imagination? | Thu Dec 07 1989 09:37 | 24 |
| re: .12
Well DV V4.0 upgrade arrived yesterday. I haven't had a chance to try
it yet but here is what the Software Addendum says about memory:
"Digi-View 4.0 will configure itself depending on the memory available
to the program. In some cases, certain options will not be available.
RAM disks, hard drives, disk buffers and other multi-tasking programs
can reduce the memory available to Digi-View 4.0. With 1 megabyte you
should get color hires or interlace with optional overscan (640 x 200)/
(320 x 400) or hires interlace black and white (640 x 400). With 2
megabytes or more all Digi-View 4.0 modes should be available."
Also under the spec's in the new User's Manual indicates:
"Note on memory requirments: Hi-Res, overscan and/or Interlace and
Dynamic modes require up to 2 megabytes of memory. Exporting
super-bitmaps to Digi-Paint 3 may require up to 3 megabytes of memory."
The sample images included on the disk did not include any Dynamic mode
images. Bummer! I suspect there wasn't room. Looks like I'll be down
loading the NEWTEK Demo.
