3161.0. "500's capslock key blinking-no keyboard control" by BSS::BENNING () Tue Nov 28 1989 20:40

    When I just powered up my AMiga 500 the caps lock lite came of for
    about 4 seconds then went out and now it is blinking on every 2
    seconds.

    I can boot up the system and everything starts up ok but I can not get
    anything out of the keyboard. Nothing echos on the screen. I have
    powered off and on several times and each time the same pattern.

    I have loaded and run a couple of games ok, so it seems to be just the
    keyboard.

    Anyone ever seen this and what is a likely problem or any
    suggestions??????

3161.1Try this first...WILARD::BARRETTWait'll they get a load of meTue Nov 28 1989 23:282
    See note 2885.* for info on keyboard failures and descriptions of
    LED blink patterns.

    As I wrote in 3153.* the A makes a cold start test everytime You
    boot the system.

    a blinkink of the caps-lock LED may signal a corrupted
    keyboard processor.

3161.3Check you power levels...BIGMOE::SENNAWed Nov 29 1989 07:316
    It can also happen if your power supply levels are being pulled down.
    Check your power supply levels. I've cause this to happen experimenting
    with my 500 when trying to see how many boards I can stick on the
    expansion port and still use the 500 standard power supply. This is not
    recommended, although my amy has been fine for two years (knock on
    formica)!
3161.4Thanks for the helpBSS::BENNINGThu Nov 30 1989 00:203
    Thanks for the help. I read the replys and the notes. I then just
    pulled every cable and power supply connector off and reseated them all
    and it has been working ever since.
3161.5Blinkin key returned swapped 8520sBSS::BENNINGSun Dec 03 1989 17:185
    Well the caps lock key blinking has come back. It only stayed away for
    aabout 2 days. I just took my 500 apart and swapped the 2 8520 chips.
    Now I hope that fixes it. At least it is still working after taking it
    apart and putting it back together and the caps lock key is not
    blinking again. Hope it stays away for good.
3161.6Tighten the connections.CGOFS::R_RYANMon Dec 04 1989 16:299
    Before you try replacing any more hardware; I had the same problem
    exactly and reseating the cables would make it work for a little while
    and then I would get another failure. Your problem, most likely is the
    cable connection for you keyboard. Pull the Amiga apart, and tighten
    the connection where the keyboard plugs into the Amiga. If this is
    loose you will get this problem intermittently until eventually it goes
    dead for good.
    Good Luck.
