| Dungeon Master and Faery Tale Adventure are by far the best of the dungeon
graphic adventure games. Dungeon Master is a better looking game with more
contols and spells but Faery Tale Adventure has a more arcade feel. Faery
Tale Adventure is the larger of the two adventures.. Both games will
keep you busy for weeks. The closest rivals are Bard's Tale and Bard's Tale
Two. Bard's Tale Two is the largest and most complicated game of all the
dungeon style games.

| abd then there the classics:
ZORK I,II & III
available from Infocom for the Amiga - and rumour has it that the
great underground empire is about to have graphics added - in much
the same style as "The Pawn" and "The guild of thieves" - nothing
animated but better than text.
Full of mindboggling puzzles, hilarious antics, wierd inhabitants
ZORK is a must for Text/graphic/command Parsing style game lovers.
No team of characters to build, resurrect etc - just you against
the GUE.
Phil
PS: I also vote for the Bards Tale I & II - I have both but am still
on I (15th floor - havent played for about 4 months)

3134.4 | One more.... | MSHRMS::GOGUEN | | Wed Nov 22 1989 10:28 | 14 |
| Spotlight/Cinemaware has just released a new adventure game called
Death Bringer. It's quite good. Fast moving, you can talk to characters
you may encounter. Excellent graphics. Easy saving and reloading games.
You can encounter helpful beings as well as nasties. Mapping required
if you want to complete the game in a timely fashion (or at all). A
small world with several dungeons and towers to explore. And the best
part of it, is no more typical "text screens" that were commonly
associated with Cinemaware games (while graphics were loading)!
Also I agree with previous replies about Dungeon Master and Faiery Tale
Adventure, these are two great games.

Dungeon Master gets my vote, unreservedly. A fabulous game,
the true spirit of dungeoneering and showing off all that is best
on the Amiga... Well worth getting the extra 512K for !!!
As for Faery Tale, well it's massive, it's well done, and it's
realistic!. But the main realism seems to be in the way that, even
when you have discovered the means to tap the ley-line teleport
system, you still have to spend endless days (hours at least) simply
trudging across country.
This trudging is OK when you are reasonably green, but when
you have a degree of firepower it gets a bit tedious. I have never
actually finished this one (unlike the above DM), and this is my
normal way of rating a good game! ie. One thats addictive in the
long term and you just can't wait to solve the next bit, on this
score DM gets 110%. Faery tale? Nice but can't remember what draw
I've left it in.

| Stu,
Try swords of twilight. This game is similar in nature to Fairy Tale
adventure but involves multiple worlds and best of all, three players
can play it at a time. One player can use the keyboard and the other
two can use joysticks. Good for a family game.
Of course, Faery Tale Adventure and Land of Legend? are very good as
well.

Ron

Top 5 Adventure from INFO Nov/Dec 89 (UINET 2924.0)
----------------------------------------------------
1. Dungeon Master (there is rumour in Notes that DM II is due out
shortly).
2. Zork Series (I have Zork Zero, this is the latest and greatest,
in capability, but I am just starting out).
3. Faery Tale Adventure
4. Uninvited
5. Leisure Suit Larry (Note there are 2 LSL versions out).
In Australia, our local Amiga 1990 Annual mag rated Mortville Manor
top of the heap ahead of Zork etc. Its certainly different and highly
absorbing, but I wouldnt put it top of the heap. It looks like a port -
doesnt take full advantage of Amiga capabilities - no animated graphics
(so far, but its early days yet in my game), sounds are sequential etc.
All commands are mouse driven off menu's, but I found the choices a bit
limiting - nothing like a good INFOCOM parser. However, its probably
the best one for families or small groups to play detective, because
the user interaction is straightforward and all the characters talk to
you, which is still a novelty outside of we Amiga freaks. The plot is
a good one too.
