| Rog,
I have just purchased Protext v4.2 for my Amiga. I am impressed
by its speed and flexibility. I get somewhat annoyed by the global
bold and underline it performs when I only want a word or sentence.
It means two operations to bold or underline at the start of text
and to turn it off again at the end if the required section. Maybe
theres a trick I've not yet discovered.
The manual is OK not the best I've read but certainly comprehensive.
It covers PC, ST and Amiga configurations.
Protext uses its own special printer drivers. Most of the commmon
printers are covered and supplied on disk. The manual gives reasonable
instructions on how to write your own or modify an existing driver.
I have written one to drive an LA50 which seems to work.
Overall I'm pleased with my purchase. My daughter is going to use
it to write her dissertation on the "Education of Deaf Children"
It is simple to use, powerful in its operation, fast and by
comparison cheap at 64.95.

3133.2 | Amiga Format mag. | AYOV28::ATHOMSON | C'mon, git aff! /The Kelty Clippie | Fri Nov 24 1989 09:08 | 10 |
| It would be worth your while checking out the back issues of Amiga
Format (U.K. magazine with disk), about 3 or four months ago the
cover disk had a demo copy of Protext on it (fully functional, but
limited to files < ~2K ) The magazine has also been running a series
on Protext and including examples on the disk.
Hmmm... It COULD have been Amiga Computing (another U.K. magazine
with disk.) - I'll check.

| It was Amiga Computing ... I could upload it if the demo is public
domain. Anyone know if this would be legal?

| When I checked the demo again it states that it is freely distributable
so you can get it from:
BELFST""::USER$DISK1:[MCCLINTOC.AMIGA]PROTEXT42.ZOO
I will move it to NORSE:: when it becomes 'reachable again'.
Regards
Peter
