3123.0. "Outline Fonts from Gold Disk" by HYSTER::DEARBORN (Trouvez Mieux) Fri Nov 17 1989 14:35

If you are interested in some big news in fonts for graphics
programs for the Amiga, check out the second half of 3074.4 in
this notesfile. It describes how the new Agfa Compugraphic Fonts
from Gold Disk can be used in graphics programs for the Amiga.

This looks like a good place to comment/raise a question.

I bought (on consignment) the Gold Disk Outline Font package. I've
used it QUITE successfully with PageStream, but less so with AmigaDOS'
    "Fountain".

The problem seems to be special characters, especially single & double
quote marks. When the Fountain imports a CSfont, it leaves a square
box for each of these characters. ProWrite, for example, picks this up
and prints it as is -- not real helpful!

PageStream is smarter about these characters. I presume it knows that
apostrophe & the grave accent are really hanging commas (duly rotated)
and that left and right quotation marks are pairs thereof.

WB 2.04's outline font support has another irksome attribute. It
routinely "shrinks" fonts by assuming larger-than-normal spacing
between lines. As a result, the height of the printed characters is
about 20% shorter than what we're used to. If, for example, I want to
replace 12pt Times in a ProWrite document with CG-Times (the equivalent
outline font shipped with 2.04), I have to use 15pt to get characters
of equivalent height. The result, though, is that the LINE spacing
becomes wider, so the documents don't match.
