| We've tested quite a few. Typically JUNK. Very noisy and require lots of power
also.

| John,
If you were given the choice of different drives/drive manufacturers
which would you buy from, in a rough order of preference - say the top
dozen or 10.

3088.3 | Sort of related ! | HPSCAD::GATULIS | Frank Gatulis 297-6770 | Thu Nov 09 1989 18:01 | 13 |
| For what it's worth ........
I have a GVP hardcard and there's a section of the manual listing
the drive that have been tested with it. In that section it says:
"All of the above hard drives, EXCEPT the Miniscribe 8425s and
Rodime 625B, an AUTO-PARK feature which automatically parks the
read/write heads in a special shipping zone when the power is turned
off. We strongly recommend that only hard disk drives with an
AUTO-PARK feature be used with our controllers."

| For 3.5" :
conner
quantum
miniscribe,hitatchi,rodime
For 5.25 :
micropolis
maxtor
cdc
seagate
miniscribe,rodime
fujitsu,hitachi
NOTE:!! The above represents my (W. John Guineau III) opinion and does NOT
necessarilly reflect DIGITAL's opinion. Also, This is an "off the top of my
head" list and I'm sure to have left out a bunch of smaller vendors.
I also agree 100% with the auto park statement in .3

| .4 may be personal opinion, but note that the top manufacturers listed
produce Digital's low end drives. The RZ22/23 are Conner drives, the RD53
Micropolis, and the RD54 and RZ55(?) are Maxtor drives.

That's why we picked 'em :-)
RZ55 is micropolis as is RZ56. Ask in a month or so who the RZ24 vendor is :-)

3088.7 | I got one. | BONKER::DUPRE | The Sherrif of Noting-ham | Mon Nov 13 1989 10:11 | 7 |

I recently purchased a Rodime 3085s which is a 3.5' 66Mb
drive that I have connected to a HardFrame controller. I have
no complaints so far but, of course, I've only had it a few weeks.

3088.8 | Rodine out of business | FSCORE::KAYE | He who dies with the most toys is dead | Wed Nov 15 1989 12:24 | 5 |
| I was talking to the local dealer today & he said that Rodine had gone
out of business (last month or 2). I would think that the warrantees
are pretty worthless unless some other party picks up the line.

3088.9 | Rodime NOT out of business! | FSCORE::KAYE | He who dies with the most toys is dead | Mon Nov 27 1989 12:31 | 8 |
| I talked to a tech at the 'dealer' and he confirmed that Rodime had NOT
gone out of business (obviously the person i talked to didn't know what
he was talking about). The tech said that the rumour was the
Miniscribe had gone out of business, i guess the other fellow couldn't
remember which one, and Rodime sounded good at the moment. I apologize for
passing on bad info.
