3060.0. "Janus and script bits" by JGO::CHAPMAN () Tue Oct 31 1989 06:26
After about half an hour of head banging last night, I've discovered
that the janus AREAD command will not tranfer a text file from amiga
side to PC side unless the script bit of the amiga file is set.
Since transferring a text file amiga -> PC as a binary with the
/B switch screws up the CR/LF, you have to do a protect filename
+s on every file before transfer.
While vaguely logical, it is annoying. I never had any problem with
WB1.2, and since I'm using janus 1.0, I'm surprised it's looking
for a script bit. Did the script bit exist on 1.2 files with a default
of ON ?
Anybody know if janus 2.0 fixes this, and what the present legal
status /availability of it is?

| I am running Janus V2.0 and transfered all sort of files
between, I never noticed any problem.
When you say "it will not transfer" can you expand?
I will double check tonite and experiment with the "s" bit.
I believe that Janus 2.0 "should" be used with WB 1.3 and
Janus 1.0 with WB1.2.
