3048.0. "TASS ???" by SALEM::LEIMBERGER () Thu Oct 26 1989 07:25

If I were you I'd run not walk to my nearest Amiga dealer, and
pick up the latest issue of Amigo Times. It is on DTP this time around
but the disk has an application called PageScript 3D.this gives
you the ability to create postscript 3d imagery for illustration
within documents.it interfaces with PageRender 3D via AREXX.If you
do not have PageRender 3d you are given 2 samples too work with.
The application involks Pagerender 3d to output the image as an
encapsulated postscript file. That said lets look at the exciting
part! PageScript 3d itself runs as a subset under a system called
TASS(THUT Application Support System)Tass is a library that can
be linked with any application. Also on disk are several examples
that can be used by those that do not have AREXX.All in All it is
too complicated(involved) for me to explain clearly.I haven't played
with it yet because I was overwhelmed by the content of the mag
in general.I like DTP to begin with,so I could not decide what to
read first.Started on the comparision of the two top DTP programs, and
jumped to the preview of ProDraw 1.2.
DO any of you guys with access to plink etc want to fill in
    the blanks on TASS.

3048.1more info on TASSSALEM::LEIMBERGERThu Nov 02 1989 08:4239
I've had time to look at the article on TASS so here is a bit more
info. The utilities on this disk are Graphic/video utilities.Aside
    from pagescript there are
1: Image-After invoking the image utility the view gadget will
allow you to display IFF files or single step thru ANIM files.
The Split function will split an ANim into seperate IFF files.
The Process function will allow you to flip an image on it's axis,
do mirror imaging, convert ham to other formats, color edge detection,
and image resizing. The article said you could do many other things
but did not list any more.
2:Screens-is a screen grabber that allows you to select from
    a list of screens.
3:Arrows-allows you to shift the screen interactivly.
4:Dir Tool-A directory requester utility that has three text
scroll gadgets. One for volume names, one for file selection, and the
last to assemble a list of selected files.
5:Coloreq-A color requestor which, when called from AREXX can
return from the user a single color,a range of colors,or an entire
pallette. It can also be used to revise workbench colors.
6:Fontreq-when called from AREXX it will return from the user
    a font,and it's attributes.
7:Prefs-a workbench utility which communicates with ARexx.
8:Showtext-a utility to display text files.
9:sysreq-A utility to display system messages,or help messages.
10:Selectstring-A utility to be used with ARexx functions to
provide the user with a list of strings to select from.
11:Getinteger/getstring-used with ARexx as a means of requesting
    a string,or number from a user.
and an Icon used to preview these utilities.

The author states that this has led to a version of
PageRender 3D called PageRexx 3D which has absolutly no user interface.
Now I will be the first to admit that some of the above is
confusing, butI plan to build the THUT disk, and give it a try.As
soon as I sort it out I will upload the TASS directory(need to move
and pack several directories). It may be easier to warp a TASS disk, but
I haven't done this before.Any suggestions would be helpfull.

3048.2Interface is counter-intuitiveBOMBE::MOOREBaN CaSe_sEnSiTiVe iDeNtIfIeRs!Thu Nov 02 1989 18:585
I installed TASS on my hard drive and tried it... once. Maybe if I
spend more time it might make more sense, but my first impression was
that their interface is very strange. There were no pull-down menus
and windows didn't have the usual close gadgets, etc. Eventually my
system crashed, but that may not have been directly related to TASS.
