3019.0. "SAY this story on Amiga" by WJG::GUINEAU () Sat Oct 14 1989 19:38
Here's another USENET tidbit. It's a story of some kind that looks (and
sounds) kinda like a cross between German and English...
It's meant for the Amiga SAY command.
(also found at WJG::AMIGA:STORY.TXT).
Maybe someone can explain it?

While going through a bunch of old junk today, I came across something a
friend had used with a speech synthesizer on a PDP-11 (an old Votrax from
Federal Screw Works). The old timers have probably seen it already. Take
the enclosed story, put it in a file called 'story', and enter the command
say -s200 -p150 -x story
See if you can figure it all out.

Cute stuff... I think there was a collection of these 'stories'
published but I can't recall. I wonder what this style of writing
is called.
BTW, I found the SAY command (as well as DECtalk) to be no help
in interpreting this sort of thing.

3019.2 | I'll have to try this on our Ami! | CLOSUS::J_BUTLER | Leave it better than you found it... | Wed Oct 18 1989 12:36 | 12 |
| When I was but a lad in Elementary School (in the 50's), a
popular fun pastime for my older (High School) sister and her
friends was to try to reproduce familiar stories using real English
words similar in sound but different in actual meaning.
I can recall my father laughing _real_ hard, and going in to
hear what was going on. I laughed, too, but didn't understand
the humor in the thing until I was much older. I don't know where
she got the idea, but I am sure it has been around awhile.
Thanks for entering the note! It brought back some good memories!!
