3010.0. "OPTICAL DISK TECHNOLOGY" by LINCON::MGAINES () Wed Oct 11 1989 13:37
Hey, I keep hearing a lot about optical disks these days. The
other day I read something that said the Macintosh was now available
with an optical eraseable disk, (wow)! How about our lovely girl
"AMY", she deserves a piece of this action...
I know ISI makes a 1.28G for $4,282. Interfaces with SCSI
controller. Laser Magnetic Storage has a 654M for $2,880. Maxtor
Corp has a 5.25 800M drive for $1300 (cheapest I've seen).
Can these babies work on good ole "AMY" since the interface
type is SCSI? If not, WHy not?
I yearn for the day when Encyclopedias etc become available
via optical disk technology. Just think, parts lists, mechanics
drawing etc all on a CD. When the drives are produced in MASS
QUANTITIES well be able to purchase the drives a lot cheaper than
at todays current prices.
I can hardly wait, how about you?
