2990.0. "Perth Australia Needs Help" by WPOMM2::ZAMBOTTI () Fri Oct 06 1989 05:36

Actually all of Australia needs help !!!

I am a representative of the Western Australia Amiga Developers Group
and am trying to get the latest copy of AmigaDos 1.4 for developers
    use.

Have tried Cookidore Australia and have had less than insulting success
(only just though). And Commodore US isn't much help either.

    Questions :

1	how can I gets access to USENET where I believe there is a copy
    	of AmigaDos 1.4.

2 What are the comp.(binaries/sources/SYS).amiga all about and how
do I get access to them. (This is my third day with DEC and I
    	know nothing).

3	How do I get access to the Usenet (Tech) newsgroup.

4	And can anyone tellme where SANS::TRS80_COLOR_COMPUTER has gone.

    Assume I know nothing

1	how can I gets access to USENET where I believe there is a copy
    	of AmigaDos 1.4.

Well the simple answer is, you don't. Unless you have a UNIX machine
    connected to internet. (I don't think you'll find a copy of 1.4
there anyway, there are only a few alpha/beta (?? <CB> ??) copies in
the hands of REGISTERED DEVELOPERS, which I assume you're not [if
you were you would know how to get a copy presumably])

2 What are the comp.(binaries/sources/SYS).amiga all about and how
do I get access to them. (This is my third day with DEC and I
    	know nothing).
3	How do I get access to the Usenet (Tech) newsgroup.

Check out the notesfile 4470::news-backbone which will give you
details of how to get and install vnews which gives you access to
    all the usenet news groups.

News groups are a similar idea to notes, only distributed over the
    whole Usenet
comp.sys.amiga is a news group for general Amiga discussions.
comp.binaries.amiga is used only for distribution of Amiga binaries.
comp.sources.amiga is used to distribute the sources for the above
    binaries.
comp.sys.amiga.tech is similar to comp.sys.amiga but for more technical
    discussions.

4	And can anyone tellme where SANS::TRS80_COLOR_COMPUTER has gone.

I can't, but check out the file easynotes.lis, there should be
a copy on a node near you (usually in notes$library:) and search
for trs or coco or something like that.

Well, as Alan already pointed out, KS/WB 1.4 is only available for
registered (and at this point I believe also only for commercial ones)
developers. If this prerequisite should be true, your local developer
support organisation (I know, they suck, especially in Australia)
or CATS at West Chester can you supply with it.
And no, 1.4 is and will never be available via UseNET. I doubt that
the whole shebang can be had from the restricted BIX developers
    section, too.

The UseNet Amiga conferences are also available as "transcript"
in the form of notes conferences at FRAIS2::.

    Hi,
If you want to access Internet then type

    		DECWRL::"gateway.doc"

This is one of the few nodes in Dec that you can get mail out
    	on.
