Is there a utility somewhere that will help me set up my own printer
file? I can't seem to find a pre-made file for my Sharp 7000x thermal
 Xfer printer.
There's probably a couple of things you can do.
1. Get stuck into your printer documentation to see if there is
a way to make it emulate another printer (Epson most likely) by
setting dipswitches or something, or if you've lost the documentation
along the way, write to Sharp to ask them the same.
2. Write to Sharp to see if they have a printer driver.
3. (Last resort) revert to the 1.2 printer drivers (by replacing
the 1.3 printer.device with the 1.2 printer.device) and then use
a utility called prtdrvgen (its on the net somewhere....) which
will then modify the generic printer driver to suit your printer.
(but be aware that you will need the printer documentation to hand
when you're doing this.) PrtDrvGen only works with 1.2 drivers :-(
