2936.0. "Desk Top Publishing Wars" by LODGE::LEN (David M. Len) Tue Sep 19 1989 16:13

The Amiga is getting to be a pretty competative arena for the software
compaines. First New Tek fired a shot in the paint wars by offering a
competative upgrade for Photon and Deluxe Paint owners.

Now Gold Disk has fired a shot in the Desk-Top Publishing war. Version
1.3 of Professional Page is available for $295 vs. the previous ~ $350.
Also, their current ad in Amiga World reports a competative upgrade for
Pagestream owners for $150. Sounds like a good deal to me, but I
currently own City Desk. So I gave them a call to ask about it, and
to my surprise they said I could get Pro. Page for $150 and the cover
of my City Desk manual. For anyone else interested the phone number
is 1 800 387-8192. With a similar upgrade offer for their new spread
sheet "The Advantage", Gold Disk is really getting agressive in
    capturing Amiga software business.

I took advantage of the Digi-paint 3 upgrade from DeluxePaint II, and
don't regret it. Digi-Paint 3 is an excellent program. I will
probably take advantage of the Pro. Page deal also, since my total
investment in City Desk is only about $57 (I got a deal on v1.0 for $20
and upgraded to v2.0 for $37). While City Desk 2.0 is pretty good, it
is still a long way from Pro. Page.

I Saw an ad in Amiga World,an I believe the lower cost, and trade
in are a special introductory offer.Looks great to me! I currently
own Pro Page, and am waiting for an update notice from Gold Disk.I
don't think you could go wrong if you took the competative upgrade.
I almost went for a similar offer from "The Other" desktop publishing
company a year ago.I am glad I stayed with Pro Page. The only drawback
I see is Most of Gold Disk's products lack in the features department.
This is offest by there products stability, and their willingness
to keep updates coming. It should also be noted that many features
offered by others can be duplicated with Pro Page, but it is not
something that can be accomplished without a lot of trial, and error.
